Job Summary:  
The Water Utility Worker I performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the general operation and maintenance of city water distribution and wastewater collection systems.  Must be available for rotating on-call status. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water Supervisor and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Salary:
$17.63 - $22.04 per hour, based on Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) license, Commercial Driver's license (CDL), and relevant experience. The City provides paid training to obtain required DEQ licenses and CDL.

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
• Occasional flexibility required for after-hours calls
• Rotating on-call status weekends
• Steady, year-round employment with no weather-related unpaid time off

Essential Functions:
In conformance with Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and City construction and safety standards, may include but not limited to:

• Perform required labor in the repair, maintenance and construction of city water distribution lines, valve assemblies, fire hydrants, flushing hydrant assemblies water meters and water meter cans
• Perform required labor in the repair, maintenance and construction of city sanitary sewer collection lines and manholes
• Perform required labor generated by the Utility Billing office (i.e., connect or disconnect water service; re-read, repair, replace, calibrate water meters replace, raise, and lower meter cans; and deliver 48 hour notices as required
• Operate City vehicles and perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, and repair of division vehicles, tools, and equipment
• Be alert for conditions or situations that need attention in the maintenance of Water Collection and other areas, and make recommendations for solutions
• Provide professional, punctual and courteous service to the citizens of the City of Owasso, and deal with adversarial situations tactfully and firmly while striving to maintain a spirit of cooperation and problem solving
• Perform other duties as assigned in a positive manner which supports the vision and strategic objectives of the division/department and the entire organization of the City of Owasso

Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Oklahoma Driver license with a clean driving record
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to display patience and work under difficult and stressful conditions

Preferred Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

• Minimum one year utilities operation related experience
• Knowledge of Water infrastructure
• Class "A" Commercial Driver License (CDL) certification or ability to obtain within first three months of employment 
• ODEQ Class "D" Wastewater and Water Operator certification or higher, or ability to obtain within first six months of employment

Working Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work will be performed mostly outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, hot and cold, and wet and/or humid conditions, and frequently in mud and/or standing water. The work environment may include exposure to drafts, noise, dust, and grease.

Tasks require ability to lift/push/pull/ and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and typically involve some combination of walking, sitting, or standing for extended periods of time, walking, balancing, climbing, bending, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, and mental and visual acuity, and may require use of personal protective equipment.
