Background:

We are a leading, established international semiconductor fab equipment supplier. For over three decades, our advanced process control solutions have supported key process steps in fabs.

We are looking for a Field Service Engineer – Lead in Fremont, CA to help manage and grow our local service team. The role combines hands-on technical work with team leadership and day-to-day ownership of key customer accounts.

Semiconductor experience is preferred but not required. Strong service leaders come from many industries. If you have years of experience keeping critical production equipment running, we want to hear from you. Relevant fields include EV/automotive or battery manufacturing, HVAC/chillers, data center cooling, cleanrooms, industrial automation, and medical or lab equipment. We will train the right person on our systems and the fab environment.

In this role, you will support a large local installed base, help drive the adoption of new products, and serve as the key day-to-day contact for customer service needs. You will work closely with customers, local technicians, operations, finance, management, and international engineering teams.

Main Responsibilities:

Field Service & Team Leadership

• Lead on-site customer installation, service, modification, and repair of semiconductor equipment
• Manage a small team of field technicians, including scheduling, logistics, and periodic service projects
• Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts for recurring or long-term equipment downtime
• Execute equipment tests as directed by engineering and management
• Coordinate emergency service call responses, including analyzing tool alarm and abort data and executing rapid corrective actions
• Manage a small local inventory depot and parts logistics in partnership with operations

Customer Support & Account Coordination

• Act as the primary day-to-day point of contact for customer service requests, operational issues, and service escalations
• Interface professionally with customer engineers, shift supervisors, vendors, and local partners to maintain daily operational alignment
• Conduct regular technical check-ins with customer staff to gather feedback and identify proactive maintenance needs
• Train customer in-house technicians on system operation, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting

Equipment Support

• Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, mechanical, refrigeration, and control system issues
• Perform equipment software configuration changes and updates, and review alarm and data logs
• Document field performance and provide data to engineering teams for product improvement

Documentation & Operations

• Maintain detailed service records, preventive maintenance logs, and reports
• Provide clear reporting to customers, management, peers, and international teams
• Support communication between regional management and international teams
• Work with operations and finance to process local service orders

Skills and Experience:

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in field service, equipment maintenance, or equipment engineering
• Experience leading technicians or a shift, or owning customer accounts
• Strong troubleshooting across electrical, electronic, mechanical, and complex equipment problems
• Experience with semiconductor equipment, HVAC/R, chillers, or process cooling is a strong plus
• Cleanroom or fab experience preferred; we will train on fab protocols
• HVAC / EPA 608 certification is a major plus
• Strong commitment to ESH/EHS and workplace safety practices
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage day-to-day customer relationships professionally
• English proficiency required; professional Japanese or Chinese is a distinct advantage
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and machine/program applications
• Based in Fremont, CA, with domestic or international travel up to 25%
