Physician Position in Emergency Department

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 25, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be April 6th, 2026 with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Work Schedule: Variable, 12-hour shifts, days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The Physician position is located in our Emergency Department, organizationally aligned under the Primary Care Service, at the VA Central California Healthcare System (VACCHCS), Fresno, CA. VACCHCS provides a full range of patient care services, as well as education. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, secondary, and long-term care in the areas of primary care, specialty medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. VACCHCS is affiliated with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Fresno Medical Education Program and provides a rich academic environment including postgraduate medical education training for residents and fellows in specialties and sub-specialties.

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provide a full range of emergency care in the Emergency Department for Veterans at the VACCHCS
• Attending in the VACCHS Emergency Department to provide direct patient care
• Clinical duties may encompass both in-person and virtual care modalities
• Participation in administrative duties as assigned, which may include Process Improvement/Quality Assurance activities or other activities
• Clinical activities may take place during VA off-tour hours, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
• Clinical supervision of trainees in the Emergency Department and in any assigned clinical duties
• Other duties as assigned.
