Programmer - Property & Casualty Insurance

Salary: $75,000 - 120,000 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least two years of professional software-development experience, including the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, with backend frameworks such as NestJS or Express.
• Experience with frontend frameworks such as React or Next.js.
• Experience with relational databases, particularly SQL Server, MySQL, and/or PostgreSQL, including query and stored-procedure development and optimization.
• Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, web services, and application integrations.
• Experience with Git or another source-control platform and familiarity with the software-development lifecycle.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills, including the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with or understanding of one or more Property & Casualty insurance areas, such as commercial auto or for-hire vehicle insurance, policy lifecycle workflows, underwriting, coverage and rating, claims, billing, document management, regulatory reporting, or insurance integrations.
• Additional experience with PHP, C#/.NET, Java, or Python is welcome, especially for legacy application maintenance and migration.
• Preferred: Experience developing or supporting P&C policy administration or claims-management systems.
• Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Azure services, enterprise document-management or imaging systems, legacy PHP applications, Docker or other containerization, Linux, monitoring, logging, DevOps, or CI/CD.
• Preferred: Experience integrating telephony, communications, or payment-processing platforms; familiarity with identity and access management, OAuth, message queues, scheduled jobs, data warehouses, or reporting platforms.
• Preferred: Knowledge of secure coding, data privacy, role-based access control, application audit logging, and regulated financial-services or insurance environments, including awareness of NYDFS cybersecurity regulation (23 NYCRR Part 500).
• Core strengths include software development, application integration, database development, technical problem solving, secure coding, insurance-domain understanding, production support, code quality, documentation, collaboration, ownership, and accountability.

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain insurance-related software applications, features, and systems.
• Build user interfaces, backend services, APIs, database procedures, batch jobs, and integrations for insurance operations.
• Support applications used for underwriting, policy administration, claims, billing, document management, and reporting.
• Maintain and modernize legacy applications, including migrating older codebases to current containerized platforms.
• Translate business and technical requirements into maintainable software solutions.
• Participate in technical design, code reviews, testing, deployment, and production-support activities.
• Diagnose and resolve software defects, integration failures, performance problems, data inconsistencies, and application incidents; conduct root-cause analysis.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs and integrations with internal systems, third-party platforms, document repositories, payment systems, telephony platforms, and insurance data providers.
• Create and optimize database queries, stored procedures, data models, and reports; support data migration, validation, reconciliation, and interface processing.
• Prepare unit tests and assist with system testing and user acceptance testing.
• Follow secure development, source-control, release-management, and change-management practices; write clean, reusable, secure, and well-documented code.
• Maintain technical documentation, including architecture, API specifications, database structures, deployment instructions, and support procedures.
• Work with business users to understand insurance workflows and resolve operational issues.
• Contribute to application upgrades, modernization, automation, and system-integration initiatives.
