Job Description: Title: Human Resources Generalist Unit: Non-Unit Department: Human Resources Reports To: Director of Human Resources Date: March 2026 Position Summary The HR Generalist plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive human resources support across the organization. Serving as a trusted partner to employees and managers, this position is responsible for full-cycle recruitment, employee relations, policy administration, performance management, and compliance with applicable employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and institutional policies. The ideal candidate is a proactive HR professional with strong judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to navigate complex employee matters with discretion and consistency. - Support employee relations activities, including investigations, coaching, mediation, and conflict resolution, in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources.
- Serve as a resource to managers and employees on collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes to ensure a positive and compliant employee experience.
- Administer HR policies and procedures, ensuring consistent, equitable, and legally compliant application.
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity within the HRIS.
- Support performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, corrective action, and disciplinary processes.
- Assist with compliance initiatives related to federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Participate in HR projects, training initiatives, and organizational development efforts.
- Perform other HR-related duties as assigned to support departmental and institutional goals.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Three to five years of progressive human resources experience
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and complex employee matters professionally and effectively
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent)
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or public-sector settings
- Experience with HRIS systems and coordination with payroll and benefits functions
- Employee relations and conflict resolution
- Policy interpretation and consistent application
- Professional judgment and ethical decision-making
- Collaboration and stakeholder engagement
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
