RN - Medical Surgical Float Pool

This position requires floating to several units within the facility. Travelers will be required to float to any MedSurg patients' area, including ER Holding and Boarding. General Medical Surgical unit will include caring for oncology patients and those receiving chemotherapy. Some pediatric patients may be present, but no pediatric experience is required since travel nurses will not take pediatric patients. The Surgical unit deals with surgeries such as gallbladders, appendectomies, colectomies, ostomies, and TURPs. General Medical cases may include cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, and COPD, including outpatient infusions for antibiotics and fluids. The Ortho/Neuro unit covers observation for conditions like chest pain, dizziness, and syncope. Orthopedic surgeries will include total hips, total knees, and shoulders. Neuro cases will focus on spine surgeries, strokes, altered mental status, and TIA versus stroke observations. The Cardiac unit will involve post-procedure care for cath, TEE, and cardioversion patients. General Cardiac patients may include those with heart failure, chest pain, and cardiac arrhythmias. Patient ratios on day shifts are typically 1:4-6 and may be 1:6 on night shifts. Support is available on the unit, with healthcare staff roles defined. Charge nurses may take patient assignments that could be full or partially reduced. The EMR system used is EPIC, and previous experience is necessary. Equipment includes IV pumps and medication dispensing systems. Floating to any MedSurg patients within the facility is expected. Scheduling requires weekend rotation, with shifts determined every 4-6 weeks. Holiday expectations may involve working 50% of the holidays in a contract duration. Scrub colors should be any solid color and professional without graphics, logos, or designs. This role promotes a traveler-friendly environment and a strong teamwork atmosphere.
