Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant COTA - Extended School Year

Job Summary: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the direct supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) to deliver therapeutic interventions outlined in students' IEPs or 504 plans. They help students overcome motor planning, sensory, functional or cognitive barriers to participate in the school environment.

Responsibilities:

• Direct Therapy: Execute individualized therapy plans to improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, coordination, and daily living skills.
• Collaboration: Work closely with special education teachers and parents to integrate therapy goals into classroom routines.
• Documentation & Progress: Monitor student outcomes, maintain accurate session logs, and report data to the supervising OT.
• IEP Participation: Attend team discussions and provide insights on student development.
• Equipment & Adaptations: Assist in adapting learning materials, classroom environments, and equipment to suit individual student needs.
• Provides direct services during Extended School Year (ESY) sessions as determined by individual student needs in accordance with IEPs.
• Commitment to professional growth through attendance at professional development events and self-generated activities that meet district expectations and re-certification requirements as appropriate.
• Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all student, family, and staff records, personal information, and school district matters in accordance with FERPA regulations and district policies.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Previous experience working in pediatric or school-based settings is highly preferred.
• Dedicated commitment to maintaining current knowledge in occupational therapy content and strategies.
• Demonstrated experience working with students within a diverse environment.
• Education: Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
