Job Title: Crew Member, Columns/Signs EXO Inc. has been protecting public infrastructure across the U.S. since 2009. Without consistent maintenance and quality assurance, critical assets face a growing risk of failure over time. EXO delivers engineering, inspection, and remediation services for lighting poles, transmission towers, and other infrastructure exposed to ongoing wear from usage, aging, and environmental conditions. With deep expertise in vertical infrastructure, EXO builds on years of engineering design and fabrication experience across utilities, telecom, transportation, and retail sectors. This foundation supports a comprehensive inspection and asset management approach that addresses both new installations and aging structures requiring immediate attention. Recognizing that full replacement is often impractical due to cost and safety constraints, EXO developed its “Ex-Tend” approach to manage assets throughout their entire life cycle. From initial quality assurance to ongoing inspection and targeted repairs, this method is designed to extend service life and improve reliability. Supported by data‑driven insights, EXO helps clients monitor asset conditions and make informed, strategic decisions. Position Overview The Crew Member, Columns/Signs travels across the country performing repair, remediation, reinforcement, and maintenance work on retail structures, including I‑beams, structural steel, retail signs, sign supports, bases, mounting systems, and related components commonly found at retail facilities. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction, structural repair, fabrication, industrial maintenance, or skilled manual labor. This position requires hands‑on experience with power tools and the ability to safely perform drilling, grinding, cutting, concrete repair, painting/coating, structural reinforcement, and other remediation activities. The position also requires strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately document field conditions, work performed, materials used, deficiencies identified, and completed repairs through written reports, photographs, measurements, and electronic documentation. This is a physically demanding, field‑based position requiring frequent travel and the ability to work safely at heights and in varied weather conditions. Key Responsibilities Structural Remediation & Repair Perform hands‑on remediation and repair of structural steel, I‑beams, sign supports, sign frames, bases, brackets, mounting systems, and other retail structures. Inspect structures for visible corrosion, deterioration, damage, loose connections, cracking, failed coatings, and other conditions requiring repair or remediation. Assist with repairs designed to restore structural components to safe and serviceable conditions. Remove damaged, deteriorated, or corroded materials using grinders, saws, drills, impact tools, and other appropriate equipment. Install structural reinforcement components, plates, brackets, stiffeners, braces, bolts, and other repair materials in accordance with project specifications. Assist with the removal and replacement of damaged or deteriorated structural components. Perform repairs to steel bases, connections, mounting points, sign supports, and other structural attachment areas. Assist skilled tradespeople with welding, fabrication, and structural steel repair when required. Apply protective coatings, primers, paints, sealants, and corrosion‑resistant materials to repaired surfaces. Complete repairs in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, customer requirements, and company quality standards. Retail Sign Repair & Remediation Perform repair and remediation work on large retail signs, monument signs, pylon signs, sign structures, and associated support systems. Assist with removal, repair, reinforcement, and reinstallation of sign components. Repair or reinforce deteriorated sign supports, structural frames, brackets, and mounting assemblies. Remove corrosion, failed coatings, damaged steel, concrete deterioration, and other compromised materials. Drill and install new anchors, bolts, fasteners, and structural attachment hardware. Assist with leveling, aligning, securing, and properly fastening signs and structural components. Perform caulking, sealing, painting, and weatherproofing of repaired structures and sign components. Assist with electrical or illuminated sign work only as directed and within the employee's qualifications and applicable safety requirements. Maintain the appearance and structural integrity of repaired retail signage and related structures. Field Reporting & Documentation Complete detailed field reports documenting site conditions, deficiencies identified, repairs performed, and the final condition of the structure. Take clear and comprehensive photographs before, during, and after repair and remediation activities. Document structural deficiencies such as corrosion, cracking, damaged steel, deteriorated concrete, failed coatings, loose hardware, damaged anchors, and other conditions observed in the field. Record measurements, dimensions, quantities, materials, hardware, coatings, and other information necessary to document the scope of work. Clearly document the repair process, including materials removed, repairs completed, reinforcement installed, coatings applied, and other remediation activities. Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, equipment, and work activities as required by the company or customer. Use mobile devices, tablets, phones, or other electronic systems to complete field reports and upload photographs and supporting documentation. Ensure photographs are properly labeled or organized so that the location and nature of each deficiency or repair can be clearly identified. Report conditions outside the original scope of work to the foreman or supervisor and document the condition as directed. Identify incomplete work, inaccessible areas, unexpected conditions, or additional repairs that may require follow‑up. Review completed reports for accuracy, completeness, and clarity before submission. Submit required reports and documentation within established project deadlines. Communicate significant structural concerns or safety‑related findings immediately rather than waiting for completion of the written report. Steel, I‑Beam & Structural Component Repair Perform preparation and repair work on I‑beams, steel columns, channels, angle iron, plates, brackets, and other structural members. Remove rust, corrosion, scale, coatings, and damaged material using grinders, wire wheels, needle scalers, and other tools. Drill holes for structural bolts, anchors, reinforcing components, and replacement hardware. Assist with installation of steel plates, brackets, reinforcement members, and other structural components. Use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, levels, and other equipment to properly position and install repair components. Measure and verify dimensions, alignment, spacing, and fit‑up prior to completing repairs. Assist welders and other skilled trades with preparation, fit‑up, grinding, cleaning, and finishing activities. Perform structural painting and protective coating applications following required surface preparation procedures. Concrete Repair & Foundation Remediation Perform concrete repair and remediation associated with retail signs, I‑beams, structural supports, and other structures. Drill into concrete using rotary hammer drills, core drills, and other equipment. Remove deteriorated concrete using jackhammers, chipping hammers, grinders, saws, and hand tools. Prepare concrete surfaces for patching, grouting, anchoring, or structural repair. Mix, place, and finish concrete, grout, epoxy, patching compounds, and other repair materials. Install or replace anchors, threaded rods, sleeves, reinforcing steel, and other embedded components. Repair cracks, spalling, damaged edges, deteriorated bases, and other concrete deficiencies. Apply sealants, coatings, and other protective materials to prevent further deterioration. Maintain clean and properly prepared work areas throughout the repair process. Equipment & Tool Operation Safely operate drills, rotary hammer drills, core drills, grinders, impact wrenches, saws, jackhammers, chipping hammers, pressure washers, and other construction equipment. Operate hand tools and power tools necessary for structural repair and remediation. Assist with the operation of aerial lifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, service trucks, cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment as trained and authorized. Perform pre‑use inspections of tools, equipment, fall‑protection systems, and other job‑site equipment. Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and report damaged or defective equipment. Follow manufacturer instructions and company procedures for safe equipment operation. Work at Heights & Aerial Operations Perform structural and sign repairs from ladders, aerial lifts, scaffolding, elevated platforms, and other approved access equipment. Work safely at significant heights while maintaining proper fall protection and three‑point contact where applicable. Assist with rigging, hoisting, lowering, and positioning structural components and sign materials. Maintain awareness of overhead hazards, suspended loads, electrical hazards, traffic, customers, and surrounding structures. Follow all fall‑protection, lift‑operation, rigging, and elevated‑work requirements. Wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high‑visibility clothing, fall protection, and respiratory protection when required. Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, job hazard analyses, and pre‑task planning.
