Working Title Trainee Corrections Officer Agency Department of Corrections Job ID 93581 Location Moose Lake, Togo, Rush City, Minnesota Schedule Full‑time, day shift after initial 6‑week training academy Salary $29.10 per hour during the 6‑week training academy; $29.10 per hour after promotion to Corrections Officer 1 (annual salary $60,760). After one year, promotion to Corrections Officer 2 provides a pay range of $29.83–$39.66 per hour ($62,285–$82,810 annually). Job Summary The Department of Corrections invites candidates to join our correctional facilities in Moose Lake, Rush City, and Togo. Training is provided; no prior corrections experience is required. Qualified candidates will learn to maintain security, supervise activities, and support inmate rehabilitation. Responsibilities Ensure the safety, security, and control of the correctional facility. Supervise incarcerated people to encourage positive behavior and prepare them for a successful community transition. Communicate written and verbal information clearly, accurately, and timely to support decision‑making and action. Operate all equipment safely and efficiently. Respond to emergencies using appropriate Incident Command System procedures to safeguard public, staff, and inmates. Follow all agency and state policies, statutes, and the Department’s vision, mission, values, goals, and initiatives. Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years old (21 years for juvenile facilities). High‑school diploma or GED. Pass a criminal history check and satisfy all sentencing and restitution requirements. Possess a valid driver’s license. Possess or obtain a permit to purchase a firearm if required. At least one of the following: 1 year full‑time work experience in any field. 2 years part‑time (≥ 20 hrs/week) work experience in any field. Associate degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, or a related field. Any bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Honorable discharge or current active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. Completed internship at a Minnesota Correctional Facility. Additional Requirements Pass tuberculosis screening and respirator clearance. Complete a Physical Demands Analysis review and sign the required documentation. Undergo criminal, background, and reference checks during the hiring process.
