Industrial Hygienist Under general direction from the Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor, the incumbent: Conduct a variety of evaluations and recommend remedial measures for potentially hazardous conditions. Plan, investigate, and document direct and indirect factors regarding industrial health and/or safety concerns, accidents or situations. Plan and complete exposure monitoring of work activities in industrial facilities. Confers with operating departments’ managers and supervisors. Document findings of studies and prepare recommendations for management consideration. Prepare reports in compliance with state and federal regulations related to industrial hygiene and/or safety. Coordinate and conduct in‑service testing and training at various work sites. Perform related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications A valid certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) – or have the ability to obtain the certification within 24 months of assignment – and a valid California Class C driver license. A valid California Class C driver license. A bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene or a closely related field from an accredited college. Five (5) years of directly related, professional‑level experience. A master's degree in a major directly affiliated with industrial hygiene may substitute for one year of experience. A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) issued by the Board for Global EHS Credentialing is preferred. Applicants must be able to pass a medical evaluation to wear a respirator. Assessment Criteria Knowledge of: Pertinent state and federal legislation and regulation. Principles and practices of industrial hygiene in an industrial setting. Research methods. Ability to: Implement technical and administrative aspects of a centralized industrial hygiene program. Conduct exposure monitoring through sampling in industrial environments. Collect and analyze technical data. Maintain comprehensive reports. Interact effectively with all levels of employees. Develop and present employee training sessions. Utilize computer software programs related to industrial hygiene analyses and records. Selection Process Applications and supplemental questionnaires will be reviewed and evaluated for relevant experience and/or coursework. Candidates considered to have the best qualifications will be invited to a written examination. The selection process will consist of a written test weighted 40% and an interview weighted 60%. The initial review of applications is expected to begin the week of February 23rd. Benefits Retirement CALPERS: All new hires are enrolled in CalPERS. The defined benefit formula is 2% @ 62 with a 7.75% contribution for the 24/25 fiscal year. Compensation and Leaves Employees receive annual salary increases until reaching step 5 of the salary range and are provided with opportunities to promote. Vacations: 88 hours after one full year, increasing to 128 hours after five years, 168 hours after 15 years, and up to 208 hours after 25 years. Sick leave: Eight hours of full‑pay sick leave per month. Personal leave: up to 24 hours per calendar year from current sick leave; some units allow up to 40 hours. Paid parental leave: up to 80 hours per birth, foster placement, or adoption. Holidays: 13 paid holidays and one‑half paid holiday depending on the schedule. Health Insurance Medical: District paid. Contribute $2,417.99 per month for medical insurance; family coverage may be largely covered. Dental: District paid. Full premium for employee and dependent coverage. Vision: Employee paid. Life: District pays for a term life policy; additional coverage available. Education Support Tuition reimbursement for approved accredited coursework.
