GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Job Summary Graduate Research Assistant (Position Number: 0000GA11) – John A. Burns School of Medicine, Department of Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology. Location: Kaka’ako campus. Salary: $23,952 annual (11‑month, 50% FTE). Position is part‑time with a temporary appointment not to exceed December 17, 2021, subject to renewal. Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates and assists with the department’s global health related research‑training portfolio. Provides support and assistance to Principal Investigator and project leadership. Implements logistics to carry out students’ research courses and training. Assists with research and travel coordination and administration, managing student and faculty travel, housing, and document preparation. Coordinates student recruitment, application process and interviews. Facilitates communication between students and their mentors throughout the program. Assists with preparing project manuals, reports, presentations, and newsletters related to student research training and mentoring. Assists with completing the program’s annual progress reports and ensures timely submission. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Health, Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field. Classified University of Hawai‘i graduate student in good academic standing. One year of experience as a Graduate Research Assistant or Graduate Teaching Assistant, or experience in a research and academic setting. Outstanding communication and writing skills in English. Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, database tools, and communications technologies including email, teleconferencing and Google Drive. Desirable Qualifications Experience conducting research and/or project administration and management. Knowledge of research training programs and interest in supporting underrepresented students. Understanding of global health and health disparities. Knowledge of applying cultural literacy, humility and safety to research.
