This position manages daily staffing and vehicle requirements to ensure all scheduled service is fully covered and operates on time. The role builds and adjusts schedules, monitors extra board and overtime usage, and responds to last‑minute staffing or operational changes to prevent missed trips or service interruptions. It collaborates closely with operations staff on work assignments, vehicle deployment, detours, and system issues, while maintaining strong partnerships with employees, union leadership, and other departments.

The position ensures compliance with safety standards, policies, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements, and supports a positive, productive work environment. Additional responsibilities include analyzing operational data and preparing detailed reports for administrative and bargaining‑unit staff. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD Drug and Alcohol Policy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

ESSENTIAL:

• Supervise Operators by providing direction, training, coaching, performance feedback, and equitable treatment while maintaining a positive and respectful work environment.

• Conduct fit‑for‑duty observations and ensure Operator compliance with all operating rules, policies, procedures, work instructions, and federal regulations.

• Monitor daily operations, identify service‑related issues (schedules, routes, detours, reliability, safety hazards), and implement or recommend solutions.

• Oversee daily pullout, workforce utilization, vehicle assignments, extra board operations, and scheduling to ensure all service is covered and on time.

• Manage assignments, Hours of Service compliance, leave tracking, and timekeeping accuracy; prepare payroll‑related documentation and conduct regular audits.

• Support workforce bid processes, change‑day activities, and special programs or projects through effective coordination and problem‑solving.

• Coordinate special services, bus bridges, emergency operations, drug screens, and other service disruptions; assign open work in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.

• Produce and maintain operational materials such as detours, reroutes, schedules, route maps, work assignments, yard moves, and incident kits; issue and collect Operator equipment.

• Prepare technical reports, operational updates, and documentation; manage records, databases, dispatch communications, and customer/Operator inquiries.

• Foster cross‑functional collaboration, participate in committees and working groups, and support employee recognition and service unit events.

• Maintain clean, organized dispatch areas and represent the department professionally. · Perform duties across multiple modes (bus, commuter rail, light rail, paratransit) as needed based on business requirements and career development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• A minimum of one (1) year in transit operations, maintenance, schedule making, or a related support function. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

• Must have a valid Colorado driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire. No DUI, DWI, or Reckless Driving violations in the past 5 years.

• Ability to obtain Light Rail Vehicle Operator certification within 90 days of hire and maintain certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of transit routes, service structures, operations, work rules, Hours of Service regulations, DOT requirements, and collective bargaining provisions.

• Understanding of extra board operations, workforce planning, Operator assignments, fleet management, and operational factors such as traffic and environmental conditions.

• Ability to supervising staff, provide leadership, manage performance, and maintain workforce efficiency.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build positive working relationships.

• Ability to make sound decisions, exercise judgment, and demonstrate diplomacy, sensitivity, and strong interpersonal skills.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to manage data entry, documentation, record‑keeping, and information systems accurately.

• Proficient in time management, workload prioritization, and meeting deadlines with attention to detail. Ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, recognize challenges early, and implement corrective or cost‑effective measures.

• Ability to prepare and manage work assignment materials, schedules, extra board assignments, and open‑work documentation.

• Proficient in adjusting schedules and resource allocation to optimize service performance and support change‑day activities.

• Ability to collect, process, and evaluate data, investigate feedback, and support continuous improvement efforts.

• Ability to coordinate special services, distribute schedule changes and operational materials, and maintain organized administrative workflows.

Pay Range:

$65,177.00 - $92,062.25 Annual
