AMA Certified Medical Assistant

As a Medical Assistant, you will work closely with licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers to support clinical operations and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for patients.

General Summary

This role involves performing delegated clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, assisting with EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting patient information accurately and promptly. You will also facilitate communication between patients and providers, manage phone inquiries, and assist with medication renewals and authorizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and collect relevant medical histories and chief complaints.
• Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens as ordered.
• Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.
• Manage supply inventory and maintain cleanliness and readiness of exam areas.
• Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment.
• Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred but not required. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

Certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, and various movements such as stooping and reaching. Exposure to infectious diseases and communicable fluids is common, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
