Lifeguard Position at McNear's Beach Pool

We are now hiring for the Summer 2026 Season! There's no better place to be this summer than at the McNear's Beach Pool! Lifeguards will be assigned to work the season at McNear's Beach Park in San Rafael. McNear's Beach pool is open for recreational swimming daily from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm between May and the beginning of September. Lifeguards can expect to work between two and five days a week. Flexible schedules will be considered.

Duties may include but are not limited to: enforcing pool rules and regulations; providing information to the public; performing routine maintenance duties to keep the pool and facility in clean and safe condition; collecting admission fees and preparing daily reconciliation and bank deposit preparation; responding to emergency situations in the pool; performing tests to ensure safe pool water quality; maintaining routine records and performing other related duties as required.

One season of experience working as a Lifeguard in a public recreation setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

Certificates and Licenses:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain the following certifications prior to assignment of life-saving duties.
• Lifeguarding certificate issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS/CPR) issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified agency.
• First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified agency.

Special Requirement: Successful applicants must be willing and available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends and to modify work schedules and work overtime as necessary.

Physical Demands: Must have the ability to perform heavy physical labor and lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier weights with proper equipment.

Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment.

All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
