Building Plans Examiner

Excellent opportunity to join a respected public sector organization in Riverside ! We are seeking an experienced Plans Examiner to review building plans and construction documents for compliance with applicable building codes, ordinances, and regulations. This role works closely with architects, engineers, contractors, homeowners, and regulatory agencies to support safe and compliant development projects.

Qualifications :
-  High school diploma or equivalent required.

- One year of experience reviewing building plans for a public agency OR

- Three years of progressively responsible experience in architecture, engineering design, drafting, or related building plan review work OR

- Three years of experience as a Building Inspector for a public agency.

- Strong knowledge of building codes, construction methods, architectural and engineering principles, and permit processes.

- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
** ICC Plans Examiner Certification required within 12 months of hire **

Additional Skills

Key Responsibilities : 
- Review and examine residential, multi-family, commercial, and industrial building plans for code compliance.

- Analyze plans, specifications, and calculations to verify proper construction methods and material usage.

- Provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners regarding applicable codes and requirements.

- Coordinate plan review activities with various departments and outside regulatory agencies.

- Assist with permit processing, fee calculations, and technical inquiries.

- Maintain project records, reports, and documentation.

- Perform occasional field visits and assist inspectors with complex plan review issues.

Preferred Skills:

- Experience reviewing commercial and multi-family construction projects.

- Ability to interpret complex construction plans and specifications.

- Knowledge of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, accessibility, and energy code requirements.
