Assistant Chef

Are you a culinary professional who is looking to learn and grow their experience? We are seeking a passionate Chef to Assist our Lead Chef in our Prepared Foods Department at The Boys Farmers Market. This role combines hands-on culinary craftsmanship with assisting leadership with kitchen management responsibilities.

Job Summary

The Assistant Chef will help our Lead Chef manage the day-to-day operations of the Prepared Foods kitchen, ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist kitchen operations within the Prepared Foods Department, ensuring smooth workflow and timely production
• Partner with lead chef on executing seasonal menus that highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients
• Help enforce strict food safety compliance, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices in accordance with local and state health codes
• Work with leadership to manage inventory and portion control to minimize waste and control food costs
• Monitor kitchen equipment maintenance and cleanliness to ensure a safe working environment
• Maintain food safety compliance

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of professional culinary experience preferably in retail grocery environment
• Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance standards (e.g., ServSafe certification or equivalent)
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs as needed
