Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider.


About the Department

• 44 attending physicians, 36 residents, 4 fellows, and 10 Advanced Practice Providers
• Provides care for patients of all ages

Duties & Responsibilities:

• This role will function on a rotating shift schedule including nights and weekends
• Perform History and Physical service, Patient Care Orders, Block - Local and Regional, Injection/Aspiration of Bursa or Joint, Trephination
• Prescribe Controlled Substances (Schedule II, III, IV, or V: DEA and IL controlled substance license required)
• Execute Closed Reduction of Fracture or Dislocation, Fracture/Dislocation Immobilization, Laceration Repair, Incision and Drainage Slip Lamp/Tonometry, and Dental Procedures
• Demonstrates competency in all areas of APRN or PA practice including medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice.
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
• Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Applicants with previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in Emergency Medicine is preferred. Relevant RN experience may be considered.

Position Requirements:


Nurse Practitioner:

• Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
• Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
• Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required

Physician Assistant:

• Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
• Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program
• Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

• BLS and ACLS certifications required

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, specialty; relevant experience and training; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. Additional compensation may include premium pay rates, sign-on bonuses, and relocation allowances. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.


Pay Range: $62,305- $87,500
