Acute Leukemia And Hematology Nurse

This position requires a chemo certification. Experience must include MS oncology and at least one inpatient hematology oncology experience in work history and checklist. A minimum of two years of overall nursing experience is required. First time travelers are not accepted. The patient age group primarily consists of adults and geriatrics. The main focus is on newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients. The medical unit has a high number of blood products, IV antibiotics, and electrolytes. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4, but can be 1:5. Weekends are variable based on unit needs. There is no set/blocked scheduling. If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department's needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities at that time.

Special focus includes heavy infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention. Required certifications are BLS, ACLS, and ONS Chemo Cert. Preferred skills include MS/Tele, telemetry, interpretation of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care and management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, and starting IVs. Computerized charting is done using EPIC.
