Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Clinical Nurse Educator to join a dynamic healthcare consortium in Juneau, Alaska. This pivotal role involves leading and managing a comprehensive, consortium-wide clinical education program designed to ensure all clinical staff meet regulatory requirements and maintain high standards of competency.

The Clinical Nurse Educator will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs, including advanced human patient simulator training. This position also involves significant oversight of the consortium's trauma registrar program, ensuring compliance with state regulations and supporting trauma designation efforts across various facilities, including outlying clinics.

Working under the direct supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer or designee, this role requires a proactive leader who can act as an internal consultant for organizational development, provide career development resources, and foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence for both professional and non-professional staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing, consortium-wide clinical education program for all clinical staff.
• Ensure educational activities align with organizational mission, goals, values, and regulatory requirements.
• Design, teach, and evaluate diverse training programs, including human patient simulator training, for adult learners.
• Act as an internal training and organizational development consultant, providing career development resources.
• Oversee the consortium's trauma registrar program, ensuring compliance with state regulatory requirements and maintaining trauma designations for all facilities.
• Support outlying clinics and facilities in establishing, overseeing, and maintaining their trauma programs and designations.
• Coordinate and ensure compliance with required certifications, including BLS, PALS, ACLS, NRP, TNCC, and Coast Guard Medivac.
• Partner with site and department managers to identify clinical education needs and implement best practices.
• Lead the clinical education team in developing and coordinating planned educational programs and competencies.
• Collaborate with departments on education quality related to the clinical learning environment.
• Lead the development and completion of audits related to clinical education and assist in developing action plans.
• Oversee the IHS Emergency Pediatric Hybrid program for the consortium.
• Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of educational activities to enhance professional development and promote high-quality, cost-effective healthcare.
• Serve as a liaison for clinical education opportunities and facilitate communication with community healthcare providers.
• Participate in evidence-based research to improve professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes.
• Supervise the trauma registrar program across all trauma designation sites and assist outlying clinics with their trauma program designation/recertification.
• Coordinate schedules for instructors of various certification classes throughout the consortium.
• Attend and actively participate in Nurse Executive Committee meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional clinical instructor experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience, with at least 2 years as a staff Registered Nurse in a specialty area (e.g., Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics, Operating Room).
• Two years of supervisory experience.
• Proof of Flu Vaccine required.
• Professional clinical instructor experience may be substituted for clinical nursing experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• TNCC Instructor certification.
• Prior Emergency Room/Trauma and/or Remote Rural nursing experience.

Skills & Competencies

• In-depth knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, diagnosis, processes, and procedures applicable to diverse patient populations, including adult and geriatric care.
• Specialized knowledge in the nursing management and care of adult and geriatric patient problems and conditions.
• Proficiency in relevant educational content, adult learning theories, and effective methods of instructional delivery.
• Strong understanding of Alaska State Trauma Program regulations, trauma education, and trauma registrar program requirements.
• Ability to develop and facilitate relevant, evidence-based education programs that follow curriculum standards and are applicable to all levels of care.
• Skill in collaborating to develop and evaluate standards of care and evidence-based training modalities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate findings and provide guidance.
• Proficiency in accurate patient data entry and retrieval.
• Ability to provide a positive training environment that reinforces current, evidence-based nursing practice.
• Competence in initiating treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders and ACLS protocols.
• Strong leadership and guidance abilities, fostering cooperative working relationships with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members.
