Senior Product Designer

You'll own the design of a set of features, from the first conversation with an educator to the final handoff to engineering. That means spending real time with the people who use our product. You'll talk with teachers, school leaders, and Wayfinder staff, watch how they work, and bring what you learn back to the team. Then you'll turn it into experiences that feel simple, thoughtful, and genuinely useful.

This role is for someone who's energized by understanding people's problems, loves collaborating to solve them, and is excited about the ways AI is changing both how we design and what we can build. You'll report to our Principal Product Designer and join a small team where your work has a direct, visible impact.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end design of a set of features, from discovery and research through concepting, prototyping, and handoff.
• Lead research for your features: plan and run interviews, usability studies, and conversations with educators and students, and use product analytics to fill in the picture.
• Get out and talk to people. Build relationships with current partners, listen closely, and bring their needs, frustrations, and ideas into the design process.
• Share what you learn clearly and often, through written summaries, presentations, and prototypes that help the team make good decisions.
• Translate concepts and technical requirements into sketches, user flows, prototypes, and handoff-ready files that balance a great user experience with business goals.
• Design interfaces that are intuitive and accessible to all learners, aligned with our brand guidelines, design system, and patterns.
• Design AI-enabled features that make work easier for educators and learning more meaningful for students, and use AI tools to speed up and strengthen your own design process.
• Work closely with educators, designers, and engineers from discovery to delivery.
• Turn your designs into build-ready specs and tickets so engineering can move quickly and confidently.
• Contribute to the maintenance and growth of our component library.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in UI and UX design, with a portfolio of case studies that shows your process as well as your results.
• A track record of leading design research, such as interviews, usability studies, and engagement with partners or customers, and turning findings into clear design decisions.
• Excellent communication skills. You're comfortable leading a conversation with a teacher, presenting to stakeholders, and explaining your thinking in writing, sketches, and prototypes.
• Experience designing accessible products and a working knowledge of accessibility standards (such as WCAG).
• Comfort using AI tools as part of your design workflow, and curiosity about designing AI-enabled experiences.
• Proficiency with Figma and familiarity with Adobe tools.
• Experience collaborating with designers and engineers to create coherent, intuitive user experiences.
• The ability to own your work independently, manage your own priorities in a fast-moving environment, and welcome feedback as part of doing your best work.
• An entrepreneurial mindset and a bias toward action.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

Preferred experience

• Experience designing PreK-12 edtech products, especially in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), college and career readiness (CCR), or durable skill development.
• Experience designing AI-enabled features or workflows.
• Experience working in a startup or other fast-moving environment.
• An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in product design, interaction design, human-computer interaction, software engineering, or a related field.

Location

Remote work. Wayfinders' regular operating hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The daily work schedule may vary depending on the crew in which you are working.

Annual salary is just one component of Wayfinder's total compensation package. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
