The Ultrasound Technologists demonstrates an understanding of human cross sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. The Ultrasound Technologists maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and imaging technique. The Ultrasound Technologists supports the mission of the hospital and department by excellent customer relations skills.Essential Functions:• Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification• Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure• Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed• Produces scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy• Evaluates finished images for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality• Discusses technical findings with Radiologist• Ensures examinations are complete to include, Cerner completion and PACS review• Instructs Radiology Residents and students in the Ultrasound scanning protocols (depending on facility)• Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilitiesOther Functions:• Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure customer expectations are met including flexibility in schedule hours• Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures• Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services• Takes call as needed• Assist in quality improvement programs in the department• Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital• Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat and orderly• Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times• Performs other duties as assignedAdditional Job DescriptionJob Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure and Certification) Education:• Graduated from accredited US program (required)Experience: • 3 years prior ultrasound experience (preferred)Licensure:• ARDMS or within 1 year of hire date (required)• One specialty area ( i.e. abdomen, vascular, OBGYN) (required)Certification:• American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (required)Job Competency: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities critical to this role: • Knowledge of abdominal vascular and small parts preferredLanguage Ability: • Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formatsReasoning Ability: • Able to critically think through complex patient situations, process improvements, evidence-based practice• Able to assist others in developing clinical reasoning skillsComputer Skills: • Basic Computer knowledgeAdditional Responsibilities:• Demonstrates a commitment to service, organization values and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times• Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times• Adheres to organizational and department specific safety standards and guidelines• Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members• Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff and the broader health care communityUofL Health Core Expectation: At UofL Health, we expect all our employees to live the values of honesty, integrity and compassion and demonstrate these values in their interactions with others and as they deliver excellent patient care by:• Honoring and caring for the dignity of all persons in mind, body, and spirit• Ensuring the highest quality of care for those we serve• Working together as a team to achieve our goals• Improving continuously by listening, and asking for and responding to feedback• Seeking new and better ways to meet the needs of those we serve • Using our resources wisely• Understanding how each of our roles contributes to the success of UofL Health
