Job Summary: The Retail Sales Associate is responsible for providing excellent customer service while supporting daily store operations. This role assists customers with in-stock product selection, answers questions, and ensures a positive shopping experience. Additional responsibilities include processing sales transactions efficiently, organizing merchandise, and maintaining a clean, safe, and visually appealing sales floor. This position works closely with team members to support store goals and contribute to overall sales performance while adhering to company policies and standards.

Pay for this Role: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour, depending on experience. 

Key Responsibilities:

Retail Operations

• Assist customers in locating in-stock products and understanding available services.
• Generate sales in hardware, lawn and garden, paint, and related product categories.
• Direct customers to appropriate Project Sales or OSR staff for special order items or estimating services depending on customer’s needs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-friendly sales environment.

Communication

• Communicate effectively with team members across departments to support operational continuity and overall store effectiveness.
• Engage with customers to clarify needs, answer questions, and ensure expectations are met.

Additional Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
• All job functions and responsibilities are considered essential.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of retail sales or customer service experience is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills & Competencies

• Must be able to work every Saturday
• Must have basic knowledge of lumber and other building materials
• General knowledge of retail products and merchandise categories.
• Ability to actively listen to customer needs and provide appropriate solutions.
• Ability to operate a cash register, computer, and calculator.
• Strong commitment to customer service and customer satisfaction.
• Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk and hear to effectively communicate with customers and employees and perform essential job functions.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
• Noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to noisy.
• Frequently required to stand for extended periods.
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently required to walk to and from various areas within the facility.
