Position Overview

The role involves critical responsibilities within a surgical services department, primarily focusing on assisting surgeons during various surgical procedures. This position requires maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring the availability of necessary instruments and supplies while delivering optimal patient care.

Shift Details

• Day 4x10-Hour shifts (06:45 - 17:15) or (08:30 - 19:00)

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field for surgical operations, including setting up sterile instruments, assisting with gowning and gloving, and draping patients.
• Support the surgical team by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating the needs of surgeons during operations.
• Manage the department's functionality through supply distribution and equipment maintenance, testing, and setup.
• Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations and policies to maintain privacy and safety in patient care.
• Perform general clerical tasks, including handling phone inquiries, updating patient appointments, and organizing electronic health records (EHR).
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment and inspect equipment for proper operation.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patients' protected health information (PHI) and comply with all regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduated from an accredited surgical technology program or comparable military training.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in a surgical setting.

Skills and Knowledge Required

• Strong understanding of surgical tools, procedures, and medical terminology.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Proficient in using computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with diverse audiences.
• Able to perform independent tasks as well as collaborate within a team environment.

Work Environment

The position includes on-call responsibilities with a required response time of 20 minutes. This may include overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays. Typical on-call frequency is one day per week and one weekend per month, subject to change based on department needs.

Patient Care and Unit Details

• Patient age groups include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
• Daily census ranges from 10-15 patients.
• The department is equipped for various surgical specializations including orthopedics, general surgery, and plastic surgery.
