Production Mechanic

Job Title: Production Mechanic Job Description
The Production Mechanic maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots production equipment in a fish processing and manufacturing facility. This role focuses on performing preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime while supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality production operations.
Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on processing and packaging machinery, including conveyors, slicers, vacuum packers, scales, pumps, and chillers.
• Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to identify and resolve equipment issues quickly and safely.
• Support sanitation activities by assisting with clean-in-place (CIP) procedures and performing equipment disassembly and reassembly as needed.
• Assist with the installation, relocation, and upgrading of production equipment to support operational improvements and new processes.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used in computerized or paper-based systems.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, GMP, HACCP, and internal safety policies by following established procedures and reporting any unsafe conditions.
• Collaborate closely with production staff to identify potential equipment problems and recommend proactive maintenance solutions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support overall plant reliability and production goals.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment, preferably in seafood or protein-related operations.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems used in production equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
• Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards, including working within regulated environments.
• Troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance in a production setting.
• Basic computer skills to manage work orders, maintenance records, and inventory systems.
• Ability to work in cold, wet, and fast-paced environments.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, bend, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work weekend, evening, or holiday shifts based on production needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Technical or trade school certification in a relevant field is preferred.
• Experience as a maintenance technician in a food processing or manufacturing facility.
• Knowledge of production equipment such as conveyors, slicers, vacuum packers, scales, pumps, and chillers.
• Understanding of OSHA, GMP, and HACCP requirements in a manufacturing environment.
• Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to partner effectively with production and maintenance teams.

Work Environment
This role is based in a fish processing and manufacturing facility with frequent exposure to cold and wet conditions, including refrigerated rooms typically maintained between 30 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The work is physically demanding and involves standing for long periods, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Standard hours are Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the requirement to remain open to working Sundays and other weekend, evening, or holiday shifts depending on production needs.

This is a Permanent position based out of Miami, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $72800.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
