Administrative Nursing Supervisor (ANS-RN)

Job Overview Fairview is hiring an Administrative Nursing Supervisor - RN at the Fairview Lakes Medical Center located in Wyoming, MN. Fairview Lakes Medical Center offers top quality primary and specialty care to community residents with nearby clinics and partners at University of Minnesota Physicians Heart and Cancer Care. We provide the services your family needs close to home. Schedule: This position will be working 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks) on the night shift, with an every third weekend and holiday rotation. Responsibilities Serves as the representative of hospital administration. Investigates patient, family, physician, and staff concerns; refers situations to appropriate departments such as Patient Representative, Risk Management, Occupational Health. Evaluates any unusual or inappropriate incidents on hospital premises and takes prompt action to ensure a safe environment and safe patient care. Informs on‑call Administrator/Director/Department Manager of resolved and pending problems and actions taken. Gives direction to other hospital departments in the absence of their manager to assure the delivery of patient care. Responds to media and law enforcement inquiries and refers to appropriate resources such as Patient Relations, Risk Management and Security. Maintains patient rights in accordance with the Minnesota Patient Bill of Rights. Responsible for human resources and financial management during assigned shift to maintain quality service, positive employee relations, and fiscal expectations. Facilitates inter/intra‑departmental problem solving and promotes first‑party communication. Implements and communicates human resource policies and procedures fairly and consistently. Monitors performance of nursing personnel from outside agencies during their assignment and relays information to appropriate staff. Assists with effective fiscal management of resources within budgetary guidelines. Responds and participates in resolving system, staff, and physician issues, taking immediate action when appropriate and/or triaging to operational managers. Consistently provides information to Department Manager or Director about unit or system issues. Provides input regarding employee issues and performance appraisals consistent with hospital policies. Utilizes a clear decision‑making process in problem identification and resolution in routine and emergency situations. Supports staff in utilizing their own abilities to problem solve. Allocates daily staffing resources. Coordinates human resources with Staffing Office and Patient Placement for area(s) of responsibility to achieve quality service and positive patient flow for assigned shift. Evaluates patient care requirements in relation to the human resource and financial requirements. Weighs requests for staff against available resources, budgeted patient care hours, and individualized patient care needs. Utilizes suggested staffing and hospital guidelines and personnel assessment to allocate staff appropriately. Demonstrates understanding of role in developing and maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees. Identifies issues which impact patient care throughout the hospital. Responds to emergency calls and acts as resource to team members when requested by staff. Participates in the Emergency Alert Response plan; assumes position of Incident Commander and implements the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) in the absence of an Administrator. Communicates as appropriate with Coordinating Council and external agencies (MNTrac). Notifies Risk Management of any event with untoward effect on patient or family. Meets requirement for annual infection control and safety/security education. Protects patients, self, and others from injury and accidents by maintaining a safe environment and using equipment properly. Follows safety/security procedures for emergency and non‑emergency situations. Protects patient, self, and others from injury during transfers, lifts, and transports by using proper equipment and body mechanics. Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to appropriate department or intervenes to ensure safety of patients and employees. Ensures compliance with internal and external regulations, policies and procedures for Joint Commission, Minnesota Department of Health, etc. Serves as a resource, coach and mentor to hospital employees, referring staff to support services and providing information about policies and procedures. Maintains knowledge of system and entity initiatives and changes and communicates them positively to staff. Assists staff with problem solving situational issues and directs them to resources within hospital or community. Serves as contact for vulnerable adult or child abuse reporting. Serves as a resource and mentor for charge nurses and a positive role model for staff in resolving problems or conflict. Serves as a mentor for safe patient care. Facilitates capacity‑related meetings and collaborates with inpatient units to evaluate and develop unit admission, transfer and discharge plans. Allocates appropriate resources to facilitate admits, discharges and transfers. Completes required admission and discharge portions of the electronic chart to facilitate patient flow. Rounds through each inpatient unit at least once per shift to gather information for patient flow and other concerns. Remains visible on patient care units at least 50% of the time. Collaborates with Patient Placement to facilitate all admissions and troubleshoot issues. Updates Patient Placement regularly with bed status. Troubleshoots planned discharges to facilitate early discharges. Responds to capacity alerts in the ED, Mom/Baby and house‑wide to help ensure patient flow and allocation of resources. Uses knowledge and resources to make decisions regarding transferring patients to outside facilities. Makes patient placement decisions within placement guidelines and policies. Consults with the Administrator on‑call to initiate hospital closure. Coordinates and communicates with multidisciplinary team members, including clinical and non‑clinical support roles. Interprets, guides and enforces system‑wide policies, procedures and practices in the safe placement and delivery of patient care. Rounds on and maintains contact with all units on assigned shift including OR, PACU and ancillary departments. Assesses competency of nursing staff to ensure patient care standards are met in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Demonstrates high level of knowledge of Standards of Care and Assessment and Plan of Care policies and can communicate them effectively. Required Qualifications 1‑3 years of supervisory/management experience in healthcare, including Charge RN or council leadership. MN Registered Nurse (RN) License. Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or Red Cross) upon hire. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. 3‑5 years of healthcare‑related leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
