REDFORD UNION PUBLIC SCHOOLS HIGH SCHOOL MATH TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION: The math classroom teacher will create a welcoming classroom environment with specialized instruction for the purpose/s of developing the students' ability to effectively perform and acquire grade level skills in math. One that is flexible, developmentally appropriate to meet student needs, where students can successfully demonstrate personal growth, social skills, and appropriate academic achievement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not be limited to):

• Creates a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture.
• Plans, organizes, and provides instruction in math in the Core Curriculum Content Standards. Instruction must be consistent and coordinated with the district's instructional program so that students meet and exceed learning targets and the requirements outlined in the state and federal law.
• Develops and delivers lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that develop each student's math skills at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets.
• Administers academic assessments for the purpose of evaluating students' progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in math. Maintains complete and accurate records of student's progress and evidence of growth.
• Provides a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, clearly communicate classroom routines, and incorporate challenging instructional strategies.
• Lesson plans demonstrate the use of individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curricular needs of each student.
• Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of student behavior, follows the student handbook to achieve an effective learning environment and promotes a positive learning atmosphere.
• Evaluates students' academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, and prepares report cards and other necessary student documentation to report student achievement.
• Uses district technology appropriately and meets expectations to report student progress.
• Communicates in a professional manner with parents/guardians through conferences and other means to discuss curriculum, assessments, and student progress.
• Seeks to identify student needs and collaborates with other district staff members in assisting and helping students address social, emotional, and academic issues.
• The learning environment for students is maintained through functional and attractive displays, pillars of student exemplars, instructional materials, bulletin boards, and websites are currently updated.
• Maintains professional learning competency through attending in-services provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities to maintain certification status.
• Utilizes age and content appropriate aids; maintains accurate inventory records; administers standardized and local assessments.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate (EX)
• Bachelor's degree including all courses to meet credential requirements.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to establish positive relationships with all stakeholders.
• A passionate commitment to improve learning for all students and a sense of urgency to do so.

SALARY: Per the Redford Union Education Association.
