The mission is to deliver patient-centered care to each and every patient, every day. This position is a Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) for Adult Inpatient Psychiatry at University Hospital. Position Details Location: University Hospital, 530 S. Jackson St, Louisville, KY 40202 Shift: Days 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. (12-hour shift, 3 shifts per week) Type: Full-time Responsibilities Use the Nursing Practice Competencies to intervene to achieve safe, optimal patient and family‑centered care outcomes. Utilize Practice Outcomes Competencies to evaluate care based on evidence, the UofL Health quality model, and patient safety goals. Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge across the care continuum, ensuring safety and addressing all patient and family needs. Independently administer medications per licensure authority, assessing and documenting effects in a timely manner and adhering to patient safety guidelines. Collaborate with patients and families to plan care using current scientific knowledge, theory, and care standards, creating individualized, age‑specific plans for optimal outcomes. Identify and prioritize patient problems based on assessment data, safety considerations, and goals, integrating multidisciplinary input into the plan of care. Implement nursing care interventions to meet patient and family health needs, demonstrating competent skills and sound clinical judgment. Assess, conduct, and evaluate outcomes of patient and family teaching, tailoring approaches to age, learning needs, and cultural background. Regularly review patient and family responses to interventions, revising the plan of care collaboratively to promote desired outcomes. Advocate for patients and families, respecting their rights and preferences, preparing them for discharge, and obtaining feedback to enhance patient satisfaction. Work collaboratively with unlicensed assistive personnel, ensuring safe patient care delivery and appropriate delegation. Other Functions Demonstrate professional conduct and appearance, being accountable for actions and outcomes. Orient new team members and supervise student duties. Act as relief charge nurse when needed by the unit. Maintain professional competency through continuing education, licensure, and professional activities, valuing lifelong learning. Participate in evidence‑based practice activities such as journal clubs and discuss care outcomes with colleagues. Engage as a collaborative team member, communicating constructively and resolving conflicts appropriately. Perform duties cost‑effectively, avoiding waste without compromising quality or service. Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct, including HIPAA privacy and security requirements. Perform other duties as assigned. Education Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (required). All new‑hire Associate Degree RN graduates must enroll in an approved BSN program within one year of hire and complete it within three years (required). Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (preferred). Experience All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must successfully complete all activities (required). Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred). Licensure Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required). Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) – required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) accredited by the AHA – may be required for specific clinical areas. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the AHA – may be required for specific clinical areas.
