Job Description What You Will Do Hands‑on maintenance of traffic and flagging Highway maintenance and repair work activities (e.g., pothole patching, spread berm, repair guardrails, crack seal, litter pick‑up, drainage, vegetation management such as weed eating, brush cutting, and mowing) Operation of heavy equipment (e.g., dump truck, loader) and hand tools (e.g., chainsaw) Perform snow & ice operations Who We Are Looking For Safety driven Enjoys working outdoors Accountable Trustworthy and respectful A positive team player Honest Official Position Description Operates basic equipment and performs general highway maintenance duties which vary by season, including constructing, improving, maintaining, repairing, and cleaning highways and roadways and right‑of‑ways. Tasks include excavating and grading ditches, digging channels and cleaning waterways, cutting brush, grass, and other vegetation, applying chemicals to vegetation, patching and sealing berms and pavement, mixing mortar and concrete, shoveling backfill, installing and repairing catch basins and stream channels, completing drainage work, reshaping ditches and trenches, pouring hot tar, removing trash, cleaning and repairing highways, mowing grass, loading and unloading supplies and materials, operating basic equipment to haul trash, performing snow and ice control, operating a snow plow with spreader and brine dispensing equipment, maintaining, repairing, and installing traffic signs and pavement markings on inter‑state, federal, and state highways, performing emergency response and clean‑up, traffic control (e.g., flagging traffic, setting lane closures, erecting barricades), performing minor equipment repairs, conducting pre‑trip inspections, clerical tasks, and operating a two‑way radio. Employment Conditions The position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards. All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period. Position will be filled pursuant to the OCSEA/AFSCME contract. Selected candidates will undergo a criminal background check and drug testing; a positive drug test will result in a non‑offer.
