The Sawyer / Machine Operator / Lumber Inspector role is a key part of the sawmill operations team, responsible for operating and monitoring equipment, ensuring lumber quality, and maintaining smooth production flow. Responsibilities

• Operate sawmill equipment at various stations, including Head Saw, Resaw, and Trim/Grading
• Conduct daily safety inspections of equipment before start-up to ensure safe and efficient operation
• Process logs and cants according to production orders, balancing production goals with grade recovery and quality standards
• Monitor equipment and material flow to prevent jams and maintain production efficiency
• Inspect, grade, mark, tally, and scale lumber according to specifications and quality requirements
• Determine optimal cuts to maximize product value and remove defective material
• Perform basic preventative maintenance, such as cleaning scanners, filling oilers, and assisting with band saw changes
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
• Communicate equipment issues, performance concerns, and maintenance needs to supervisors and the maintenance team

Qualifications

• Experience in sawmill or manufacturing operations preferred
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic preventative maintenance
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Dedication to following safety standards and procedures
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, bend, stretch, push, pull, and reach as needed
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical

Compensation

$20.00 to $29.00 per hour , based on experience.
