About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit Profession: RN Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:00 PM - 06:30 AM Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Certification Must-Have: 1 year of experience in a critical care setting. Description: The unit consists of a mixed ICU/Step Down environment with a total of 20 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio includes 2:1 for ICU patients and 3:1 for step-down patients. There is a requirement to float to the sister unit for step-down patients at a 1:3 ratio or progressive level patients at a 4:1 ratio. A weekend and holiday rotation commitment is required. The patient population includes those experiencing severe respiratory failure, such as pneumonia, ARDS, or COPD exacerbations, often requiring mechanical ventilation or high-flow oxygen support. Sepsis and septic shock patients frequently require vasopressors, invasive monitoring, and aggressive fluid management. Patients may also present with hemodynamic instability, including hypotension and arrhythmias. Neurologic conditions, such as altered mental status, metabolic encephalopathy, overdose, or stroke, are common. Complex metabolic and endocrine disorders, such as diabetic ketoacidosis or severe electrolyte abnormalities, are often treated. Cardiac conditions that do not require immediate intervention are also part of the patient population. Gastrointestinal and hepatic failure cases, including GI bleeding and acute liver failure, will be addressed. Typical patient needs include continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring. Invasive lines, such as arterial lines, are frequently utilized. Therapies may include NIH and TNK treatment. Mechanical and noninvasive ventilation or advanced oxygen therapies are standard. Titrated IV medications, including vasopressors, sedatives, insulin, and antiarrhythmics, are administered as needed. Enteral or parenteral nutrition may be required. Frequent laboratory monitoring and management of complex medication regimens are essential for patient care.
