HR Manager - Plant Operations

The North America team is seeking a Manager, Human Resources , for our Assumption, IL manufacturing facility. This key position partners closely with site and functional leaders to build an organization that drives excellence in recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, engagement & development, and total rewards—while reinforcing the behaviors that support GPT’s Winning Culture. This position will report directly to the Assumption Plant Director with a dotted line to the HR Leader of North America Grain. The Manager, Human Resources is ultimately responsible for leading all aspects of the Human Capital Experience in a way that strengthens performance, accountability, and our purpose of Feeding the World Better.

Your Impact

• Guide leaders through employee relations matters with consistency, fairness, and timely follow-through
• Ensure HR policy and practice compliance, translating state/federal requirements and corporate standards into practical, easy-to-follow site processes
• Lead end-to-end talent acquisition, staffing, and onboarding for all factory workers to build a capable workforce that helps the site deliver for customers and business goals
• Drive performance management, engagement, and development—setting clear expectations, coaching leaders, and reinforcing accountability and collaboration consistent with our Winning Culture
• Partner with EHS and operations to support a safe, compliant workplace and resolve people/process issues where work happens
• Help guide employees through leaves processes, manage temporary leaves of absence, and handle benefits questions as needed
• Conduct investigations in partnership with legal
• Manage the summer internship program including recruiting, attending job fairs, onboarding, and scheduling intern events
• Manage employee engagement events and activities for the site
• Implement leadership trainings for Team Leads and Supervisors including, but not limited to, performance management, progressive discipline, FMLA and leaves, and difficult conversations

Leadership Approach

• Be visible and approachable on the floor—listening first, using data, and following through
• Communicate clearly and consistently, creating alignment and trust across shifts and functions
• Model and reinforce the everyday behaviors that support GPT’s Winning Culture—especially accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Partner with the Plant Director on plant initiatives, reporting of absences and headcount, flexing employees across different departments as business needs change, hiring needs and recruiting
• Manage one direct report (HR/Training Coordinator)

Your Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field; or relevant experience
• 5+ years of Human Resource experience in a manufacturing, production or similar environment, with at least 2 years of experience managing others within the human resources function
• Some experience in environmental, health and safety programs
• Experience with MS Office Suite of programs
• A plus if you have experience with Dayforce as an HRIS and payroll system
• A plus if you have relevant professional certifications (e.g. SHRM, PHR)

Your Compensation and Benefits

Expected annual salary for this role will be $80,000 – 115,000, plus annual bonus eligibility. This is dependent upon job related knowledge, experience, and skills.
