Certified Medical Assistant

Position Summary Certified Medical Assistant – Temporary at USC Upstate Health Services. Supports clinical care by providing vital signs, medication and allergy review, vision screening, lab specimen collection and processing, phlebotomy, and other tasks within the scope of practice. Responsibilities Provide patient intake and screenings, obtain vital signs, health history, chief complaints, and routine medication data. Perform vision and other screenings per training and office protocols. Serve as chaperone and assist with gynecological exams and procedures. Educate patients on specimen collection and perform lab procedures, including collecting and processing blood, urine, and other specimen types with proper labeling. Perform waived laboratory tests and support laboratory inventory, maintaining adequate and safe supplies. Maintain medication and clinical supply stock in accordance with pharmacy, lab, and state health regulations. Clean and sterilize instruments using an autoclave in accordance with clinical procedures. Assist with follow‑up, care coordination, medication refills, and other patient needs. Support Health Services in responding to campus medical incidents and infectious disease outbreaks. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Position Specific Minimum Qualifications: Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification; at least two (2) years experience as a medical assistant in a hospital or ambulatory care setting; electronic medical records experience; successful background check. Preferred Qualifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification; phlebotomy and outbound lab preparation; in‑house specimen collection and point‑of‑care (POC) lab testing; instrument sterilization/autoclave proficiency. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Current licensure or certification in the specific field; interpersonal and effective communication skills; ability to assess, identify, and address individual needs; knowledge of medical terminology and use of medical equipment; ability to follow clinical orders and comply with regulations; clinical skills to treat patients of all ages; problem‑solving and teamwork abilities; adherence to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.
