MRI Technologist

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Rotating Shift Description: Schedule | Hours: Full-time 72 hours bi-weekly Holiday and weekend rotations Position Summary The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing a wide variety of MRI examinations, producing high quality diagnostic images, and maintaining an orderly work environment. This role involves reviewing physician orders, preparing patients, positioning, and performing MRI imaging. The MRI Technologist demonstrates advanced functional knowledge of MRI/MRA and related clinical indicators for exams to be performed and may adjust scanning protocols based on the anatomy/physiology presented during the scan. The MRI Technologist works closely with MRI leadership and the Radiologist to produce the most diagnostic images possible in accordance with department protocols. Administers contrast media required specific diagnostic protocols and may assist the physician/APP with the performance of MR What the MRI Technologist will do: Perform a wide variety of examinations in accordance with department, Federal, and accreditation governing bodies, resulting in high-quality diagnostic MRI scans. Properly position patients utilizing the appropriate coils and parameters for the patient and exam. Use MRI equipment in a safe and proper manner. Maintain MRI patient safety by investigating, evaluating, coordinating device reps (when applicable), and performing MRI Full Stop and Final Check prior Zone 3. Monitor the MRI environment to ensure the area is secure and restricted to screened patients and personnel only. Evaluate the quality of images in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols. Administer specific MRI contrast and materials as directed by the Radiologist or other physician, in accordance with established guidelines. Assist Radiologist in performing routine and/or special procedures. Instruct, assist, and demonstrate equipment operation as well as department operation for students and less advanced health center radiology personnel. Explain exam and procedures and acquire patient history, ensuring patient and/or family members understand the scope of the exam. Monitor safety and comfort of patient through the exam. Actively participate in all Colleague Engagement initiatives and tools. Assure quality patient care by promoting effective communication and teamwork through the department. Effectively use available resources to provide a more complete and personally satisfying experience for all customers. Proficient with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with the provision of care throughout the shift. Demonstrate and provide quality patient care by considering age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Review request for MRI procedures, patient history, preparation recommendation, and department guidelines to determine appropriate diagnostic images, anatomical regions to be examined, procedure, and protocol to be followed. Interact with the Radiologists and referring physicians to ensure that the correct procedure is done. Review patient's charts/requisitions and results from previous procedures, record patients' medical information and explain the procedure to be performed on the patient using laymen terms, care, courtesy, and tact. Adjust, manipulate, and control computerized and digital imaging equipment and accessories demonstrating and applying knowledge of techniques, procedures, protocol, processes, and total body anatomy to provide studies for interpretation. Screen patient for safety when receiving IV contrast in accordance with policy. Administer injections of contrast media for examinations following established sterile techniques and methods. Identify and monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast media. Monitor patient condition before, during, and after performance of diagnostic procedures, recognizing changes that may require further action up to and including emergency actions, and initiate the appropriate response. Ensure work areas and equipment are maintained and in a clean, orderly condition, test equipment, and maintain weekly QA log reporting operational and functional instrumentation problems to the appropriate management personnel. Notify appropriate personnel immediately of equipment malfunctions and needed repairs. Diagnose minor software problems and initiate appropriate computer commands to solve them. Assist with tracking and monitoring equipment to the unit. Request services for maintaining equipment as needed. Maintain knowledge of current trends and development in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending seminars, conferences, or continuing education programs. Work in conjunction with department physicians and Radiology management to improve overall staff/customer education by in-services, article distribution, public speaking engagements, and one-on-one training sessions. Assume the group leader functions in designated area and oversees the activities of peers in the absence of Lead Technologist and report to their upline leader as appropriate. Adapt to and cooperate with schedule changes by maintaining excellent working relations with other members. Assist in transporting patients when necessary. Use two patient identifiers, history, and previous procedures to produce the right scan at the right time. Determine that appropriate charges have been entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service, and exam performed with any required modifiers. Make corrections as needed per charge capture policy/practice. What the MRI Technologist will need: Education Completion of ARRT, ARMRIT, accredited Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Ultrasound program, or MRI-specific curriculum. Completion of an accredited MRI Technologist program preferred. Experience For On the Job Trained positions: Must be registered in a primary service line. Preferred: Two years of experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist or Sonographer. With previous MRI Experience: Preferred one year of experience as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist. Certification/Licensure For On the Job Trained positions: ARRT certification, CNMT, ARDMS or registry eligible within 6 months of hire. Must be ARRT(MR) or AMRIT certified within two years of hire. With previous MRI Experience: Advanced certification in MRI by ARRT or ARMRIT, or MRI Registry-eligible with certification within one year of hire. Certification or re-certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three months of hire. Maintain 24 continuing education credits per biennium to retain registry.
