Construction Superintendent

Position Overview The Construction Superintendent is responsible for leading and managing all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with schedule and budget objectives. This role provides direct oversight of field operations, including coordination of labor, subcontractors, materials, and equipment, while ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards. The Superintendent serves as the primary field leader, overseeing multiple crews and Foremen, and is accountable for overall field performance. This position plays a critical role in bridging field execution with project management objectives, ensuring productivity, quality, and cost control are consistently achieved. Strong leadership, proactive problem-solving, and clear communication are essential to maintaining alignment between field operations and project goals. Success in this role is measured by project performance across safety, schedule, quality, and cost, as well as the ability to drive accountability and consistent execution across all field teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Oversight & Execution

Lead and manage daily field operations from mobilization through project completion

Ensure all work is executed in accordance with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable regulations

Monitor project progress against schedule, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions as needed

Coordinate multiple crews and work fronts to maintain efficient workflow and sequencing

Review and approve crew time, ensuring alignment with production and cost expectations

Team Leadership & Development

Provide leadership and direction to Foremen, field personnel, and subcontractors

Establish clear expectations for performance, productivity, and accountability across all field teams

Support training and development of Foremen and crew members through active leadership and mentorship

Promote and reinforce Blue Sage Services culture by modeling company values, maintaining professionalism, and fostering accountability and teamwork across the jobsite

Make timely, informed decisions to resolve issues and maintain project momentum

Safety & Compliance

Enforce all company safety policies and regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards

Maintain accountability for safety performance across all crews and subcontractors

Conduct and support regular safety inspections, audits, and corrective actions

Ensure incidents are properly documented, investigated, and addressed

Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership and consistent field presence

Quality Control

Ensure all construction activities meet project specifications, company standards, and client expectations

Monitor workmanship, materials, and installation methods to prevent defects and rework

Coordinate inspections and testing to ensure compliance with all quality requirements

Identify and address quality risks early to avoid delays and additional costs

Schedule & Cost Management

Execute and maintain the project schedule in coordination with the Project Manager

Drive production to meet or exceed planned performance and milestone targets

Support cost control by managing labor, equipment, and material utilization in the field

Provide accurate and timely updates on progress, delays, and resource needs

Identify and address factors impacting productivity, cost, or schedule performance

Communication & Coordination

Maintain clear, consistent communication with the Project Manager regarding project status, risks, and needs

Coordinate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and clients

Provide timely and accurate field updates to support project reporting and decision-making

Ensure alignment between field operations and project management objectives

Material & Equipment Management

Plan and coordinate procurement, delivery, and staging of materials and equipment

Ensure efficient use of resources to support productivity and cost control

Coordinate with Project Management and suppliers to maintain availability and avoid delays

Monitor equipment usage and ensure proper maintenance and care

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate and detailed daily reports, including labor, equipment, production, and site conditions

Track installed quantities and field progress to support cost and schedule management

Ensure proper documentation of safety activities, inspections, and incidents

Support project closeout through accurate recordkeeping and documentation

Problem-Solving & Conflict Resolution

Identify, address, and resolve field challenges, conflicts, and constraints proactively

Collaborate with Project Management to develop practical solutions that minimize impact to schedule and cost

Escalate issues appropriately while maintaining ownership of field execution

Qualifications

Experience

5–7+ years of experience in a Construction Superintendent or similar field leadership role

Demonstrated experience managing complex construction projects and multiple crews or subcontractors

Certifications

OSHA 30-hour (or higher) preferred

First Aid/CPR Certification preferred

Additional relevant safety or trade certifications are a plus

Skills & Abilities

Strong leadership presence with the ability to drive accountability and performance

In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment

Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents

Effective communication and coordination across field and management teams

Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities

Proficiency with construction management tools and standard office software

High attention to detail with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity

Leadership Expectations

Leads by example through work ethic, attitude, and accountability

Maintains strong field presence and active engagement across all crews

Holds Foremen and subcontractors accountable for performance and execution

Communicates clearly, directly, and proactively

Upholds and actively reinforces Blue Sage Services culture and performance expectations

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Project Manager and Operations Managers

Coordinates closely with Project Management for schedule, cost, and resource planning

Provides direct leadership to Foremen, field personnel, and subcontractors
