Mental Health Counselor

Job Title and Location Recovery Counselor – Rancho Los Amigos Crisis Residential Treatment- Valley Star, Downey, CA. Schedule: Friday – Sunday, 3pm – 11:30pm. Compensation: $20.00–$21.00 USD per hour. Job Overview The Recovery Counselor is a para‑professional treatment team member responsible for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the clients through direct and indirect interactions. The role includes ensuring safety regulations and facility cleanliness, assisting with laundry and household cleaning, adding to the approved driver list and transporting clients in company vehicles, providing high‑level customer service in a therapeutic environment, screening clients for contraband, monitoring surveillance equipment, controlling access to the center, and responding to fires or other emergencies. Duties are performed under direct supervision of the Program Director or designee. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, HiSET) plus one (1) year full‑time equivalent experience in a program serving persons with mental disabilities, or completion of a minimum of 20 hours of on‑the‑job training as defined by regulations within one (1) year of employment. Certification as a Nurse’s Assistant (preferred). Valid CA driver’s license (Class "B" preferred) and a driving record that meets company policy. Safe Food Handler certification from SERV or to be obtained within 90 days of employment. First Aid certification from a qualified agency such as the American Red Cross, to be obtained within 90 days of employment. Ability to maintain a safe and clean environment and work independently under supervision. Experience in therapeutic, residential treatment settings preferred. Division / Program Overview A 16‑bed facility designed for adults with mental health challenges or a recent crisis who need intensive treatment. The program operates 24/7, providing an alternative to urgent care or hospitalization. Clients live on‑site in a homelike setting while receiving counseling, basic living, and interpersonal skills training, along with medical and case‑management services.
