Job Title: Gas Field Technician
Job Description
The Gas Field Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining landfill gas collection systems, primarily at flare stations, while ensuring accurate data collection and safe, efficient field operations across multiple landfill sites.
Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain landfill gas collection systems, with a focus on equipment located at flare stations.
• Track and monitor surface emissions to support air quality and environmental compliance efforts.
• Collect and record operational and environmental data, including surface emissions readings and equipment performance metrics.
• Measure liquid levels in gas extraction wells and document findings accurately.
• Perform minor cleaning, maintenance, and repairs on pneumatic pumps, including pump pulling and basic service tasks.
• Inspect and service related equipment such as compressors, blowers, and flex hoses using intermediate hand and power tool skills.
• Use Microsoft Excel to chart, record, and organize field data in a clear and consistent format.
• Upload and download equipment information, work performed, and site data into the designated database systems.
• Conduct air monitoring and inspections at landfill sites to identify issues and support corrective actions.
• Travel daily between multiple sites within the Pleasanton, Fremont, and Fairfield area, and throughout the Central Valley including Modesto, Manteca, and Stockton.
• Work independently in the field while following established safety procedures and operational guidelines.
• Communicate findings and equipment status to the team to support ongoing maintenance and environmental monitoring programs.

Essential Skills

• 1-5 years of related experience in heavy construction, environmental, or oil and gas sectors.
• Hands-on experience with air monitoring, inspection, and air quality or environmental technician work.
• Practical knowledge of surface emissions monitoring and landfill gas field operations.
• Experience working with gas extraction wells, including liquid level measurements and basic well-related tasks.
• Familiarity with pneumatic systems and equipment, including pumps, compressors, blowers, and associated components.
• Intermediate proficiency with hand and power tools for field maintenance and repair work.
• Ability to use Microsoft Excel for charting, recording, and organizing technical and environmental data.
• Entry-level familiarity with technical instrumentation and equipment, with the ability and willingness to learn more complex tools.
• Capacity to work in outdoor, physically demanding environments that are dirty, dusty, and construction-related.
• Valid driver capability to travel between multiple sites on a daily basis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering is valued.
• Experience working in landfill, construction, or similar industrial sites.
• Comfort with database systems for uploading and downloading equipment and maintenance records.
• Strong attention to detail in data collection, documentation, and reporting.
• Ability to work early day shifts and manage time effectively across multiple site visits.
• Willingness to develop deeper technical expertise in gas field operations and environmental instrumentation.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pleasanton, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
