The City of Doraville continues to grow, expand services, and transition into a new era—including relocation to a modern City Hall—the need for clear, consistent, and strategic communication is essential. The Communications Coordinator serves as the central point of contact for all internal and external communications, ensuring that the City presents a unified, transparent, and accessible message to residents, businesses, regional partners, and stakeholders.

This position is responsible for coordinating citywide communication efforts, managing digital platforms, developing communication materials, and supporting all departments in public outreach. The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in enhancing public understanding of City initiatives, promoting community engagement, and supporting Doraville's ongoing development and visibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop, coordinate, and distribute internal and external communications to support City priorities, initiatives, and public information needs.
• Serve as the primary communication lead for the City's transition into the new City Hall, delivering clear updates on facility information, service changes, and community impacts.
• Manage and maintain the City's website, social media platforms, digital newsletters, and other communication channels, ensuring timely and accurate content.
• Support all City departments with writing, editing, graphic design, and communications planning for newsletters, announcements, outreach materials, presentations, and special events.
• Create and maintain standardized templates, messaging guidelines, brand standards, and communication workflows to ensure consistency and professionalism across the organization.
• Collaborate closely with the City Manager's Office and department directors to coordinate and distribute public information related to major projects, initiatives, and citywide events.
• Develop proactive communication strategies to increase community engagement, improve transparency, and enhance public understanding of City services.
• Provide support for economic development communications, including project updates, business outreach materials, and redevelopment announcements.
• Assist with media relations by drafting press releases, responding to media inquiries, and ensuring messaging is clear, accurate, and aligned with City priorities.
• Coordinate communication efforts related to Doraville's continued growth, redevelopment projects, infrastructure improvements, and long-term planning initiatives.
• Monitor engagement metrics and public feedback to improve communication effectiveness and identify opportunities for expanded outreach.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Two (2) years of experience in communications, public information, digital media management, or a related area.
• Experience with social media management, website content updates, and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe, etc.).
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into clear public messaging.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and adapt to fast-paced, evolving communication needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in municipal government or public-sector communication.
• Familiarity with local government operations, public meetings, and community engagement processes.
• Bilingual abilities (Spanish or other languages prevalent in Doraville).
• Experience with video editing, photography, or content creation.

• Strong understanding of best practices in public-sector communication and community engagement.
• Ability to manage multiple communication channels and projects simultaneously.
• Excellent judgment in handling sensitive or time‑critical information.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
• Proficiency with digital communication tools, content management systems, and social platforms.
• Ability to develop creative, engaging communication materials that reflect Doraville's values and priorities.

Working Conditions:

• Work is typically performed in an office environment with occasional attendance at community events, City Council meetings, and off-site activities.
• May require evening or weekend work during special events or emergencies.
