Job Title: Custodian and Janitor

Pay: $14.50 per hour

Shift: 8pm - 4am Monday - Friday

This role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout a shopping mall and its surrounding parking areas. You will perform a variety of custodial and janitorial tasks, including general cleaning, floor care, restroom sanitation, trash removal, and basic exterior cleaning duties such as pressure washing and gum removal. Shift hours and schedule will be discussed and finalized during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning duties to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility, including interior mall areas and surrounding parking lots.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in common areas, corridors, and other designated spaces.
• Dust and wipe down surfaces such as counters, railings, ledges, fixtures, and other high-touch areas.
• Empty trash receptacles, remove waste from designated collection points, and replace garbage bags as needed.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, and restroom fixtures.
• Restock restroom and janitorial supplies such as paper products, soap, and cleaning materials.
• Use pressure washing equipment to clean designated exterior areas and surfaces.
• Remove gum and other debris from floors, walkways, and exterior surfaces using appropriate tools and cleaning methods.
• Collect and remove trash from exterior areas, including parking lots and walkways, to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Follow established safety procedures and guidelines while operating cleaning tools, equipment, and chemicals.
• Work effectively with other crew members to complete cleaning tasks and maintain coverage across the facility.
• Listen to and respond appropriately to customer requests related to cleanliness and facility appearance.
• Follow instructions from supervisors regarding daily tasks, priorities, and special cleaning projects.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in a neat, organized manner and report any maintenance needs.
• Support general labor tasks related to housekeeping and environmental services as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform janitorial and housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
• Capability to clean and sanitize restrooms and other high-traffic areas following established procedures.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and collaborate with team members to complete tasks.
• Willingness and ability to listen to customer requests and follow supervisor instructions accurately.
• Reliable transportation to travel to and from the worksite and maintain consistent attendance.
• Basic understanding of safety procedures related to cleaning chemicals, equipment, and facility guidelines.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry cleaning tools and supplies throughout the shift.
• Customer service mindset, with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with mall patrons and staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous janitorial or cleaning experience in commercial buildings, environmental services, home care, or housekeeping is a plus but not required.
• Experience with pressure washing equipment for exterior cleaning is beneficial.
• Ability to perform gum removal (“gum buster”) and detailed spot cleaning on floors and walkways.
• Experience in general labor, housekeep or home care environments is helpful.
• Comfort working in both interior climate-controlled spaces and outdoor areas such as parking lots.
• Ability to provide customer service support when patrons have questions or cleanliness concerns.
• Spanish language skills are welcome; the role can be performed by Spanish-only speakers.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a shopping mall and the surrounding parking lots, combining indoor and outdoor duties. Part of the shift is in a climate-controlled environment inside the mall, where you will perform traditional janitorial and housekeeping tasks. The role also includes exterior work in the parking areas, such as trash collection, gum removal, and pressure washing. The primary schedule is on second shift, with typical hours around 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., with some flexibility based on preference discussed during hiring. You will use standard cleaning equipment and supplies, including brooms, mops, vacuums, trash collection tools, sanitizing products, and pressure washing equipment. The position involves active, physical work, requiring regular walking, standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift, in both indoor and outdoor conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL.

The pay range for this position is $14.50 - $14.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
