Diesel Mechanic Apprentice

Select how often (in days) to receive an alert: Create Alert What you’ll need to succeed as a Mechanic Apprentice at XPO 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair -OR- a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance A valid driver’s license Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends Brake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25 Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19 Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance Preferred qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience Previous or current ASE certifications Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades Basic computer skills Basic welding skills such as Oxy/Acetylene, ARC and MIG About the Mechanic Apprentice job Pay, benefits and more: Expected pay range: $28.27 to $30.81 per hour. Pay is on an annual step progression. Actual compensation may vary due to factors such as experience and skill set. Quarterly tool allowance to grow your tool kit Competitive compensation package Full health insurance benefits available on day one Life and disability insurance Earn up to 13 days of PTO over your first year 9 paid company holidays 401(k) option with company match Education assistance Opportunity to participate in a company incentive plan This is a Motor Carrier Act Exempt position What you’ll do on a typical day: Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturer, DOT, and company schedules Apply knowledge and work by DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations, as required Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of vehicles and trailers Repair or rebuild equipment systems Conduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity Operate specialized tooling and vehicles Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized Interact with operations and shop management Mechanic Apprentices are required to: Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. And occasionally greater than 75 lbs.
