Shift: 3-12's - Weekend Nights (Fri, Sat, & Sun) Work Arrangement: On-Site Department: Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit

Facility: University Hospital 1 Hospital Drive, Columbia, MO Compensation:

Base Pay Range: $34.46 - $51.02 per hour, based on experience

Special Pay: Additional $3.00 per hour

Shift Differentials:

Additional $2.75 per hour for weekday evening shift

Additional $4.00 per hour for weekday night shift

Additional $3.00 per hour for weekend day shift

Additional $5.75 per hour for weekend evening shift

Additional $7.00 per hour for weekend night shift

About The Position

During each 36-hour workweek, Core Charge Nurses are responsible for completing two chart or process audits to support quality and compliance. This role includes active participation in staffing coordination and daily operational oversight, including tracking unit productivity through HPPPD and maintaining census data using designated productivity tools.

Core Charge Nurses are expected to focus on shift-to-shift operational detailssuch as patient flow, staffing adjustments, and real-time unit needsallowing leadership to concentrate on broader management and strategic responsibilities.

About The Neuroscience ICU

The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) is a 30-bed, high-acuity unit specializing in the care of patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. We serve a broad patient population from across the region, providing expert care for individuals experiencing hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, seizure disorders, and those recovering from neurosurgical procedures.

Our nurses are highly trained in managing advanced neurological monitoring and life-support equipment, and they deliver compassionate, evidence-based care in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. MU Health Care is proud to be the first and only institution in mid-Missouri to earn the Comprehensive Stroke Center certification from DNV GL Healthcare. As a certified Level I Comprehensive Stroke Center, we represent the highest level of expertise in stroke treatment.

Detailed Job Description

Provides clinical patient care within the scope of a Registered Nurse, including assessment of condition, goal setting, and nursing actions to meet the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient.

Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses patient self-report and symptoms of pain promptly, utilizing an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment.

Demonstrates an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Report pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and patients' chosen support person(s) about medications.

Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.

Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements policies and procedures of MU Health Care and assigned nursing unit.

Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. resident physician, ancillary support teams) and records those observations accurately and concisely.

Coordinates daily staffing assignments based on patient acuity and unit needs.

Adjust staffing levels as necessary throughout the shift to maintain safe patient care standards.

Ensures smooth patient flow and efficient bed management within the unit.

Coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients as needed.

Responds to clinical emergencies or critical incidents within the unit.

Communicates effectively with healthcare providers and other departments during emergencies.

Facilitates effective communication between nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families.

Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Provides clinical guidance and support to nursing staff, including performance feedback.

Serves as a resource for nursing staff regarding clinical issues and patient care decisions.

Addresses and resolves patient care concerns and complaints promptly, escalating to the clinical manager or Office of Patient Experience as appropriate.

Conducts assigned audits of patient charts and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

Participates in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based quality improvement activities.

Audits adherence to infection control protocols and patient safety guidelines.

Participates in unit meetings, committees, and projects to contribute to unit goals and initiatives.

Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups. Full understanding of the attendance and punctuality guidelines and the dress code.

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

Required Qualifications

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

One (1) year of RN experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
