Multimedia Journalist Job Summary The Multimedia Journalist independently creates news content forWGCU broadcast programming, including producing, writing, shootingand editing. This role generates compelling news stories formultiple platforms, including television, radio and digital. Job Description Typical duties may include but are not limited to: Researches and develops news stories through ongoing inquirieswith newsmakers and community figures on a local, state, nationaland international level. Conducts on-camera field and studio interviews; researches,records, reports, and writes, daily news stories in accordance withjournalistic standards and ethics. Develops and maintains relationships with news sources toidentify story ideas, gather information, and support newscoverage Creates multi-platform content from stories wheneverappropriate. Captures, records, edits, videos and audio content for useacross broadcast, digital, social media, and other communicationplatforms. Collaborates and contributes to daily broadcast concepts,research, background materials and shares newsmaker contacts withcolleagues. Maintains data and collects information through updates tocontact lists, electronic and hard-copy files of archived work anddirectories of external materials in accordance with Florida'spublic records laws and the federal Freedom of InformationAct. Adheres to public media editorial standards and practices,including the PBS & NPR Code of Ethics. Other Duties: Participates in on-air fundraising campaigns and WGCU PublicMedia special events. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications This position requires either eight years of directly relatedfull-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degreefrom an accredited institution in an appropriate area ofspecialization and four years of full-time experience directlyrelated to the job functions. Professional, full time experience in broadcast news, publicradio field reporting and interviewing. Experience with public broadcasting, audio digital editing, FTPfor audio production purposes, and field recording. Superior on-air voice quality and network quality hosting. Valid driver's license. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience,and/or certifications may be considered. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in journalism,communications, cinematography, or film studies. Experience participating in on-air membership campaigns. Demonstrated award-winning multimedia production experience,including studio, field audio, and video production. Bilingual in English and Spanish Previous social media experience. Experience working in Public Media. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proven ability to think strategically and approach challengeswith creativity. Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, andholding oneself accountable. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectivelyacross teams. Demonstrated knowledge of journalism ethics, practices, andstandards. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines establishedby professional organizations and/or governing agencies. Knowledge of media production, communication, and disseminationtechniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform andentertain via written, verbal, and visual media. Skilled in the use of journalism principles andtechniques. Network quality news writing, reporting, digital recording, andproduction skills. Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize andcomplete simultaneous projects within deadlines. Skill in current digital audio editing, video desktop editing,and general desktop software applications including those thatcreate original data journalism stories. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communicationskills. Ability to source stories and craft attention-getting,in-depth, vibrant, and well-organized narratives. Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relationswith colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and the generalpublic. Ability to collect, analyze, organize, and present informationin a meaningful manner. Ability to comfortably use microphones, portable recordingdevices for audio, video, and radio studio productionequipment.
