COURT LAW CLERK

About the Position The Justice Court – Las Vegas is seeking qualified candidates for the Court Law Clerk position. The Court Law Clerk will conduct legal research on applicable legal and factual issues on the direction of a judge or attorney, using computerized research tools or law library resources. The Clerk interprets and applies laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities in preparing briefs, pleadings, and related documents. Responsibilities include drafting memoranda and opinions concerning findings on specific cases or legal issues, and researching and explaining departmental, County, and State procedures to attorneys and departmental support staff. Minimum Requirements Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Full‑time experience in performing legal research and/or writing legal opinions or documents is desirable. Relevant documentation: All qualifying education, experience, and other relevant details must be clearly documented in the application’s “Education” and “Work Experience” sections. Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorship. Pre‑Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre‑employment drug examination. Example Duties Research applicable legal and factual issues using computerized techniques and/or law library materials at the direction of an attorney or judge. Interpret and apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities in preparing briefs, pleadings, and other legal papers. Draft memoranda, opinions, and other documents related to findings on specific cases or issues. Research and explain departmental, County, and State procedures to attorneys and departmental support staff. Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service by offering suggestions, directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintain accurate records and files; prepare a variety of records and reports as assigned. Use standard office equipment, including a computer, in the performance of the work.
