This is a hands-on leadership role with real ownership — you will set the standard for how quality runs at a company producing parts for some of the most demanding programs in aerospace and defense. The role is responsible for ensuring products, processes, and documentation conform to AS9100D and applicable customer specifications, while driving continuous improvement.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesMaintain and continuously improve the AS9100D-certified Quality Management System, including internal audits, management review, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processesServe as primary liaison with the AS9100 registrar/certification body and lead or coordinate external audits and surveillance visitsOversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities, including First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102Develop, review, and approve inspection plans, quality procedures, work instructions, and control plansReview and interpret customer purchase order requirements, drawings, and specifications for quality/inspection flow-downs (including special process and ITAR/export control requirements where applicable)Investigate nonconformances, customer complaints, and returns; lead root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5-Why, fishbone) and drive corrective action to closureManage the calibration program for gages, inspection, and test equipmentMaintain material and process traceability records, Certificates of Conformance, and device/part history records as required by customer or contractTrack, analyze, and report quality metrics (scrap rate, on-time delivery quality, audit findings, cost of quality) to leadershipPrepares weekly Team Meetings to report performance metrics, FOD issues, safety alerts, and QMS information to all employeesSupervise, train, mentor, and evaluate quality department staff (inspectors, QA technicians), serving as an escalation path when neededSupport engineering and production in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), PPAP-style qualification, and new part introduction/first-run activitiesCoordinate supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and approved supplier list maintenanceLead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S) affecting quality and process capabilityMaintain document control and records retention in accordance with AS9100D and customer/contractual requirementsPrepare for and support customer quality audits and on-site visitsExposure to CAD software and capable of creating basic drawingsQualifications & RequirementsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing, or a related technical field5+ years of progressive quality experience including 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacityHands-on mechanical inspection experienceProficiency with GD&T and blueprint readingExperience with CMM and standard inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges)Aerospace or defense manufacturing background, highly preferredWorking knowledge of AS9100D and ISO 9001Statistical process control (SPC) and root cause/corrective action methodologiesStrong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface with customers and auditorsWHY AVERRO?Averro is a veteran-owned staffing and solutions firm connecting top talent with cutting-edge companies.
