Job Summary With a commitment to patient‑ and family‑centered care, the professional nurse uses a rigorous nursing process that values the uniqueness of each individual and addresses the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of the diverse patients served by Jefferson Health. The nurse develops nursing plans of care with patients and designated care partners to effectively address individualized needs and priorities that align with their cultural beliefs and values. Job Duties Interacts with co‑workers, patients, their family/designated care partners, and other staff in a manner consistent with the values of Jefferson. Integrates evidence‑based practice, clinical expertise, patient preferences, and cultural beliefs into the delivery of optimal health care. Partners with patients and care partners in identifying learning needs and priorities and delivers education that is useful, understandable, and affirming. Minimizes risk of harm by following established nursing practices, protocols, and performance standards. Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision making. Uses data to monitor outcomes of care processes and applies improvement methods to design and test changes that continuously improve the quality and safety of patient care. Functions effectively within nursing and inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making to achieve quality patient care. Recognizes patients and their family/designated care partners, providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care that respects personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values. Creates an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills. Demonstrates a commitment to learning, seeks opportunities for professional growth, and serves as a preceptor for appropriate staff members. Actively participates in hospital‑ and practice setting‑based committees, including safety and quality improvement. Demonstrates willingness to give and receive feedback and integrates appropriate changes into practice. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Patient‑ and family‑centered practice knowledge; ability to convey respect and collaborate with patients, families, and designated care partners. Cultural awareness; ability to convey respect and connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. Effective communication; understanding of concepts, tools, and techniques to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs accurately. Knowledge of patient assessment and care; ability to assess ailments and injuries and implement a treatment plan. Patient and designated care partner education; skills in child and adult education techniques, eliciting learning priorities, and educating about condition, treatment, medications, and next steps. Medication administration and prescription; knowledge of medications used for patient care and ability to administer and prescribe drugs for continuing treatment outside the hospital. Discharge planning; ability to partner with patient and care partners in developing a discharge plan and arranging for follow‑up care. Assessment and diagnosis; knowledge of tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment. Health information documentation; ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and results in written or electronic form. BLS–Basic Life Support certification. AHA–RN licensed in Pennsylvania. Preferred Qualifications BSN or completion of BSN or an appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire (strongly preferred). Previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting (strongly preferred). Physical Demands Job requires manual handling of patients and equipment, and ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift during typical hospital activities.
