Description

American Traveler is hiring a Hospice RN for a home-based hospice role requiring 2 years of recent specialty experience and MO or compact RN licensure.

Details

Home hospice setting managing a caseload of 14-16 patients or supporting other case managers with routine visits.

Patient population includes end-of-life patients with a prognosis of 6 months or less, most commonly diagnosed with heart failure, heart disease, COPD, and cancers, with some Parkinson's and Alzheimer's cases.

Average daily census of 60 patients across the hospice program.

Service area covers Jackson, Clay, and Cass counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas.

Visits are typically completed 1-2 times per week per patient, lasting around one hour each.

Day shift schedule, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with some flexibility in start and end times.

On-call responsibilities include one night shift every other week.

Floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed.

Uses Epic for charting.

Requirements

Active RN license required, MO or compact license needed, with both KS and MO licensure preferred due to floating requirements.

Current BLS certification required.

Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience required, including a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days.

Home Health/Hospice experience required.

Skills required include medication administration and pain management, symptom assessment, end-of-life care, and patient/family education and support.

Knowledge of pain assessment, pharmacologic and non-pharmacological interventions, and various pain types required.

Experience with death pronouncement, death/dying counseling, and postmortem care preferred.

Reliable transportation required for home visits.

Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year.

Additional Information

Provide hospice nursing care including pain management, symptom assessment, and end-of-life support to patients and families.

Responsibilities include goal setting with patients and families, cultural awareness, and knowledge of Medicare state regulations.

Navy blue scrubs required.

Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position.

Maximum RTO allowed is 7 days.

Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service after 18 months of previous service, and permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler.
