Paraprofessional - Special Education Position Type: FULL TIME Salary: $23,910 to $33,252 (paid based on salary scale) POSITION SUMMARY Provides one-on-one academic support to exceptional education students (including those with severe and profound intellectual disabilities) at the elementary level. Under general supervision serves as a support to the assigned classroom teacher or instructional area in providing educational opportunities for each student within various disciplines. This is a grade 16, 190-day position that starts at step 6 and pays for experience up to step 8. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide one-on-one support to selected students in resource, self-contained, and regular classroom settings. Conduct small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Assist with preparation of materials for instruction (including copying/duplicating materials, construction of bulletin boards, and grading work). Perform special duties as required to meet the unique needs of specific student populations, such as lifting physically disabled students, providing toileting/personal hygiene assistance, and using physical restraints or other specialized behavior management techniques. Assist with routine record keeping, housekeeping, and school-wide supervision, such as loading and unloading buses. KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution. Or have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution. Or have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Paraprofessional experience serving school‑age children desirable. Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions. Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC‑issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the education requirements outlined above. The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.
