Senior Technical Combat Designer

Seeking a remote freelance Senior Technical Combat Designer for a contract role of approximately 3-6 months, who will create and refine engaging boss encounters, enemies, and combat systems in Unreal Engine while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Key responsibilities Build and balance bosses and enemies in Unreal Engine, owning at least two combat characters or equivalent systems Design and implement combat mechanics, including animation hookup, hitbox timing, and combat variety improvements Collaborate with engineering, animation, VFX, and design teams to troubleshoot and iterate on gameplay using Unreal Blueprints and other tools Required qualifications 5+ years of experience designing and implementing combat for video games, with ownership of 2+ combat characters or equivalent systems Strong understanding of animation principles and combat feel, including diagnosing combat and animation issues Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine, specifically Blueprints, Behavior Trees, and Animation Blueprints Proficiency in authoring or modifying animations using Maya, MotionBuilder, Blender, or similar tools Basic knowledge of C++ and comfort using AI-assisted coding tools for gameplay implementation Virtual Vocations Inc
