Assistant Men's Soccer Coach

Title: Assistant Men's Soccer Coach Position Type: Staff Full-Time Days Per Week: Varies based on practice and game schedules. VP Area: Athletics Department: Athletics Location: Elon Main Campus Position Summary The Assistant Men's Soccer Coach is responsible for specifically designated aspects of the men's soccer program, exercises independent judgment in providing technical expertise in the fundamentals of the sport, teaching student‑athletes basic and advanced skills, and assisting the Head Men's Soccer Coach in management of the team through recruiting, program development, fund‑raising, promotional activities, and related assigned responsibilities. The Assistant Men's Soccer Coach guides and mentors student‑athletes throughout the academic year. Minimum Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in any relevant field of study with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. Preferred Education and Experience Master's degree in any relevant field of study. At least two years of experience in coaching at the intercollegiate level is strongly preferred; extensive player experience at the collegiate level can be substituted. Coaching experience in an NCAA Division I program is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility and related functions is also preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Management and organizational skills are required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with individuals of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Job Duties Assume responsibility for a particular aspect of the men's soccer program as assigned by the Head Coach, plan short and long‑term objectives, demonstrate technical expertise in the basics of the sport, teach fundamentals and advanced level skills and game strategies to student‑athletes, recruit players, scout future opponents, supervise practice sessions, coordinate with academic staff, and monitor academic progress of participating student‑athletes. Protect the integrity of the men's soccer program and the reputation of the intercollegiate athletics program by ensuring recruiting activities, eligibility determination, scholarships and financial aid, practice sessions, and related activities comply with NCAA rules, applicable conference rules and university policies. Reduce the likelihood of sports‑related injuries by being knowledgeable of injuries sustained, supervise appropriate pre‑training and warm‑up procedures, and refer injured student‑athletes to qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers. Promote a positive image of the intercollegiate athletics program and the university through participation in community and professional organizations, representing the university at professional meetings, supporting fundraising goals, and promoting community service activities among student athletes. Contribute to the overall success of the university’s intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
