Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Behavioral Health is responsible for managing and coordinating nursing care activities during clients' hospitalizations, adhering to organizational policies and procedures. This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. The RN will direct and oversee the actions of other personnel involved in client care while maintaining professional accountability for nursing services provided.

Essential Functions and Duties

• Organize and coordinate nursing care delivery for assigned clients.
• Maintain adaptability to new techniques without performance deficiencies.
• Direct other healthcare personnel involved in patient care.
• Engage in direct client care activities as required in accordance with departmental policies.
• Provide accurate and timely implementation of physicians' orders.
• Prepare, administer, and document medications per established policy.
• Comply with infection control policies and procedures.
• Coordinate and provide emergency care as required.
• Participate in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
• Evaluate staff performance and recommend appropriate action when necessary.
• Identify problems and utilize critical thinking skills to develop effective solutions.
• Develop and implement unit goals and objectives in collaboration with supervisors.

Position Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current Illinois nursing license required; B.S.N. preferred or equivalent experience.
• BLS certification required.
• Demonstrates clinical competence and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in operating standard office equipment and computer software (i.e., MS Office applications, Meditech).
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when assisting clients.
• Requires standing for 4-6 hours during shifts.
• Ability to perform tasks that may require bending, stooping, and walking.

Work Environment

This position will require working with clients aged 18 years and older, necessitating a strong understanding of various clinical specialties, and maintaining a safe environment by continuously monitoring for any harmful contraband.
