Phlebotomist

Location: Latham, NY | Schedule: Full-time contract, Monday-Friday 730am-400pm, alternating Saturdays 7am-100pm | Compensation: Not specified Overview A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis for a projected duration of 3 months, with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and processing to support patient care and diagnostic testing. What you'll do Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities Update patient information as needed Collect and store specimens according to established procedures Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously to patients Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles Fully understand and follow physicians' orders Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy Package specimens for transport Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations Attend annual department trainings Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries Required qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite High School Diploma or GED Why this role This position offers a 3 months contract opportunity in Latham, NY, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. #J-18808-Ljbffr
